MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be aware of the youth's habits, interests, and any special needs, including any special supervision needs. Provide a safe environment. Sharing with incoming caregivers (direct care workers) information about each youth's activities during the previous shift and instructions given by the parent or other professionals. Implement and follow the youth's service plans. Effectively supervises daily activities of youth assigned to their care. Maintain daily progress notes for the youth in care. May be required to administer medication after completion of medication administration training. Actively supervise youth to include auditory and visual supervision in order to know where youth are at all times. Administers and adheres to all policies and procedures, minimum standards, and any other laws which are relevant to the employee's duties and responsibilities. May be responsible for the safe transportation of youth to school, appointments, and off-site activities/recreation. Assists with safety behavior management and crisis intervention when youth's conduct warrants. Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to the Child Abuse Hotline. Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management. Provide companionship and emotional support to residents, encouraging social interaction and engagement. Monitor and document vital signs as needed, reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals. Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations within the residential setting. SKILLS Knowledge of home care practices and familiarity with group home settings is beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining a clean living environment.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
May include but not limited to: youth in care, representatives from HHSC Licensing, representatives from SSCC, representatives from DFPS, all employees, and community services providers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or high school equivalency, such as a General Education Development (GED) from a program recognized by the Texas Educational Agency (TEA), the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TPSAC), or other similar education entity from another state or documentation verifying high school equivalency from homeschooling.
Required:
Must be at least 21 years old, pass all required background clearances, submit the required criminal history affidavit, be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks, and demonstrate competency, prudent judgment, and self-control in the presence of youth and when performing assigned responsibilities.
