Assist with cleaning the kennels, crates, and stainless banks daily, ensuring that animals get sufficient exercise, ensuring the animals have sufficient food and water. Caregiver will log /share information on the animal's behavior (temperament, food habits etc) to assist with future placement in foster or a permanent home. Laundry and cleaning of the SPCA facility animal common areas, supply areas, and play yards are also duties of the Animal Caregiver Team. Key Responsibilities 1. Hire, coach, counsel, and terminate staff as required, in collaboration with Executive Director. 2. Create work schedules for Animal Caregiver staff. 3. Train Animal Caregiver staff as needed. 4. Feed and water each animal as prescribed by the DVM. 5. Make sure animals are clean, including bathing and brushing. 6. Recognize and record any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any

animal. 7. Follow medication calendars, administer medications as directed by Vet/Vet Tech. Document on calendar with initials. 8. Clean and sanitize all kennels, runs, and related areas. 9. Walk and exercise animals daily. 10. Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry. 11. Empty trash within building. 12. Light grounds maintenance (picking up trash and feces) 13. Restock blankets, cleaning supplies, food. 14. Maintain clear, legible and accurate paperwork. Required Qualifications, Education, and Abilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Previous shelter/animal care experience preferred. Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint. Ability to follow through with tasks and work independently. A thorough understanding of medical conditions (infectious and viral) that are commonly found in shelter/rescue populations and the potential risks they pose to humans and owned animals. Proper understanding of cleaning and sanitation practices required to prevent the spread of infectious disease within the environment. Must be at least 18 years old. Must have high school degree or equivalent. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must exercise good judgment and maintain calm and clear thinking under stressful situations. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Physical effort:

ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for 100 feet; bending, reaching, squatting, stooping; control large dogs on a leash; work in an environment with daily changes in climate; walking and/or standing for long periods. Working Conditions Work is normally performed inside and outside; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches, and animal waste; possible exposure to contagious diseases.
