Caregiver / Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Reports To:
House Manager, Business Administrator, or Owner Position Summary The Caregiver is responsible for providing direct care, supervision, and support to residents living in the Adult Family Home. Caregivers assist residents with daily living activities while promoting independence, dignity, safety, and quality of life. Employees are expected to follow all company policies, resident care plans, state regulations, and documentation requirements. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResident Care Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene. Assist with mobility, transfers, and ambulation as needed. Provide meal preparation and assistance with feeding when necessary. Monitor residents for changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral conditions. Ensure residents are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times. Medication Administration Administer medications as trained and authorized. Complete medication documentation accurately and timely. Report medication errors, refusals, or concerns immediately to management. Documentation Complete required observation notes for each resident during every shift. Document incidents, behaviors, appointments, medication administration, and significant events. Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and entered before the end of the shift. Housekeeping and Safety Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Complete assigned household chores and cleaning duties. Follow infection control and safety procedures. Report hazards, maintenance issues, or safety concerns immediately. Transportation and Community Involvement Transport residents to appointments, activities, and community outings when authorized. Encourage participation in community activities and social events. Support residents in achieving personal goals and independence. Professional Conduct Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations. Communicate professionally with residents, families, guardians, case managers, and coworkers. Follow all company policies and procedures. Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions. Arrive on time and remain attentive during scheduled shifts. Refrain from sleeping on duty, using inappropriate language, or engaging in unprofessional conduct. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred. Previous caregiving or direct support experience preferred but not required. Ability to pass background checks as required by state regulations. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred. Ability to lift, transfer, and assist residents safely. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain professional relationships. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods. Ability to assist residents with transfers and mobility. Ability to respond quickly during emergencies. Work Environment Adult Family Home (AFH) residential setting. May require evenings, weekends, holidays, overnight shifts, and PRN coverage. Must be able to work independently while maintaining resident safety and well-being.
Pay:
$14.00 - $17.00 per hour
