Do you have a passion for recovery and wellness? Are you passionate about empowering youth to fulfill their personal goals? NSCS' Youth Elemento is looking for a Young Adult Peer Mentor! The Young Adult Peer Mentor uses lived experience to connect with and inspire young adults with mental health challenges. We are particularly looking for a mentor that has some experience working with young adults experiencing substance abuse challenges. The Young Adult Peer Mentor provides structured, one-to-one, strength-based support services, groups and is responsible in ensuring the access center is a safe space for all young adults. This is full-time 40 hours per week position: Mon & Tue 9am-5pm, Wednesday-Friday 10am-6pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing Support:
Peer mentors will engage in one-on-one and group sessions, offering support and guidance to young adults facing adversities related to mental health and/or substance use.
Facilitating Groups:
Mentors are required to plan and conduct groups on essential topics such as stress management, coping mechanisms, healthy relationships, and positive lifestyle choices.
Resource Navigation:
Assisting young adults in connecting with local resources, including counseling services, support groups, and wellness programs to ensure comprehensive support. Creating a
Safe Space:
Establishing an inclusive and non-judgmental environment where young adults feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, struggles, and aspirations.
Promoting Advocacy:
Encouraging young adults to voice their experiences and advocate for mental health awareness within their communities, thus reducing stigma and fostering a culture of understanding.
Professionalism:
Ensures that all services are provided in a professional manner, ensuring privacy, safety, and respecting the youth and family's dignity and right to choice.
Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma OR GED Bilingual in Spanish required Must have personal experience living with mental health challenges, substance use, trauma or system involvement and a willingness to share their journey. System involvement and personal lived experience includes but not limited to: Immigration, Court involvement, Gender and sexuality, Homelessness, Disability, Foster care. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation and ability to work in community. Must be 21+
