Turning Point, Inc in Mount Clemens, MI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Turning Point, Inc empowers survivors of domestic and sexual violence and Human Trafficking through comprehensive services and resources while advocating for community action to end oppression and violence. We offer emergency shelter, housing, trauma advocacy services, forensic nurse examiner program & first advocacy services, 24-hour hotline, personal protection order and legal advocacy services, and community outreach.GENERAL DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS
: Upon completion of training, the Resident Advocate provides support, safety planning, and resources to shelter residents, including those who are limited-English speaking or hearing impaired. The Resident Advocate must be a critical and analytical thinker, work well with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams, communicate and write effectively, be highly organized, flexible, able to troubleshoot, and must be resourceful. The Resident Advocates will execute job duties, and responsibilities from an intersectional, and anti-oppression framework while upholding the values, and the mission of Turning Point. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field. Having at least 1-3 years of experience in the field of social services, sexual assault crisis counseling, and or hotline/intervention experience and proven experience with trauma-informed direct services is a plus. The candidate must demonstrate cultural competency in working with diverse populations.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy Administer and implement agency policies and procedures Maintain agency policy on confidentiality, record keeping and professional ethics Provide crisis support to shelter residents Assess danger of client situation and safety planning Assess lethality of suicidal clients and take appropriate action Maintain records of services provided to shelter residents Provide information and referrals to residents Support survivors in maintaining safety and facility standards Provide for the safety and security of the shelter, its residents and staff, including monitoring security cameras Must complete all duties on Resident Advocate log including house laundry, cleaning, organizing, stocking personal needs, taking out trash, etc. Maintain referral manuals Must be able to work midnight shift and available to sign up for holiday shifts Regularly attend all staff meetings, in-services and workshops Coordinate services with other shelter units (children's program, case management, facilities management, etc.) and with other departments in the organization Conduct relationships with staff to promote mutual respect, improvement of services, and interdepartmental program development Notify the Director of Human Trafficking, Senior Director of Housing and Human Trafficking, or CEO of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and clients Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Human TraffickingWORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to work independently and as a team member Allows for flexibility in schedule and job function adapting work to needs of residents, including covering holiday shifts Ability to climb stairs Ability to lift 20-30 lbsOTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully pass a criminal background check. The preferred candidate will have reliable transportation, auto insurance, a valid Michigan Driver's License, and a good driving record.
