DESCRIPTION
The Albany County Office of the Public Defender is seeking a caseworker who can collaborate with attorneys and help us provide holistic, client-centered legal representation to indigent clients enmeshed in the criminal justice system. Ideal candidates are commit
  • ted to the client's defense and have experience conducting bio-psycho-social-economic assessments, writing mitigation reports, re
  • viewing and interpreting psychiatric, educational, and medical records, maintaining consistent contact with clients, performing field work, and connecting clients with resources for housing, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and other needs.
Candidates must be able to provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and case management throughout the pendency of a legal case.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER:
A. Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work and three (3) years of criminal court advocacy experience; OR B. Possession of a bachelor's degree and five (5) years of comparable experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must possess a valid NYS driver's license at the time of hire and maintain throughout employment.
NOTE:
Strong writing skills are preferred.

Sokol @albanycountyny.gov Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title. This is a Hiring Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program-designated title. The HELP Program is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the HELP Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a "HELP Program" position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELP Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.
