Job Description

Responsible for attending to the immediate needs of people affected by homelessness and facilitating linkages to local resources related to homelessness relief. Build rapport with individuals by encouraging positive change and offering assistance in navigating the network of housing, mental health treatment and support services in the Buffalo area. This position might be the perfect fit for you! This position requires working at Harbor House Homeless Resource Center, a drop-in resource center that is open 9pm to 7am 365 days/year. Must be reliably available to work overnight shifts 9pm to 7am, including weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts. Because Harbor House is an essential service to homeless people, the ideal candidate must have a reliable mode of transportation and be committed to working during extreme weather events if Harbor House remains open during such events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct assessments and interviews to determine client needs and goals Provide peer support services to individuals Collaborate with other professionals and agencies to coordinate services for clients Assist clients in accessing community resources and support programs Monitor shower usage, complete laundry services, prepare light meals as needed, and carry out routine cleaning and sanitation tasks to maintain a safe, orderly, and hygienic environment. Provide crisis support during emergencies or high-stress situations
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualify as a
Peer:
Current or former consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services. Personal experience with mental health systems, recovery and a comfort level in self-disclosing mental health experiences. Working with consumers receiving mental health treatment. Working knowledge of social services, including homeless and shelter systems, housing, mental health and substance abuse service delivery systems, as well as other clinical, vocational, educational, self-help/peer, and financial services and resources in the Continuum of Care. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Computer skills; able to use agency and HMIS data systems, as required. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines Organizational skills; including ability to complete documentation in a timely manner. Excellent time management skills. Spanish speaking highly valued. Please note that this job description is not exhaustive and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

$18.00 per hour
