Are you passionate about helping individuals and families stay safe in their homes ? Do you thrive in a role where your work directly supports community well‑being ? The Energy Program's primary focus is the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), which provides urgent assistance to low‑income households experiencing or at risk of experiencing a crisis. Beyond CIP, the Program also administers several programs designed to help residents with utility crisis, including: Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) Emergency Assistance under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF‑EA) Share the Light Wake Electric Round Up Wake County Emergency Assistance Program (WCEA) Utility City of Raleigh Assistance Program (UCAP) We are seeking a dedicated, detail‑oriented Energy Assistance
  • Eligibility Caseworker II to join us in the Swinburne Building.
In this role, you will: Interview individuals to gather information needed to determine eligibility Assess client situations and provide guidance about economic benefits and community resources Enter required data into agency systems to authorize benefits Request and evaluate verification documents in alignment with program policy Make accurate eligibility determinations Support fellow caseworkers and complete timely documentation Use document management tools to effectively manage your caseload This position is required to work in office for 6 months or until quality work standards are met prior to working a hybrid schedule and may be deployed back to the office without notice.
Additional Details:
Occasional work at alternative Wake County or community‑based locations may be required after hours or on weekends during LIEAP season. Overtime may be required during high‑volume periods. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) High school degree or GED Three years of job-related experience Equivalent education and experience are accepted Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume. Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) One (1) year or more of determining income eligibility for Energy Assistance, Food & Nutrition Services, Family & Children Medicaid Assistance or Adult Medicaid programs Proficient NCFast skill level Proficient OnBase skill level How Will We Know You're 'The One'? Knowledge in NCFAST for Energy Assistance programs or other Eligibility Programs Ability to apply complex policy to determine client budgets Proficient in calculating budgets Ability to review and assess financial information Ability to interpret policy and translate complex concepts to the public Ability to perform at a satisfactory with in a deadline driven environment with short timeframes Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail with great accuracy Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to flexible and adaptable in an environment with frequent changes Proficient with basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel) and NCFAST, Hyland OnBase (PRIME), and OLV Strong ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers by listening to the customers and understanding and responding to identified needs
