Position Description As a Glean Field Leader, you will play a crucial role in leading our grassroots, tiny but mighty non-profit organization. Reporting directly to the Logistics and Distribution Manager, members of the leadership team, you will have overall responsibility for ensuring the successful execution of our mission. You will collaborate and work in partnership with staff on coordinating daily gleans (harvesting of excess produce) and gardening tasks, lead our team of volunteers in gleanings, distributing produce to our partners and inputting data. Uplifting our mission, you will work with our partners, executing efficient and effective systems and processes, and be expected to ensure a culture of respect, trust and accountability with the team and community partners. How Time Is Allocated This role is structured around three areas of focus. Actual day-to-day balance will shift with the glean season and organizational needs, but the position is generally expected to break down as follows: 75% Gleaning, Distribution & Data Entry (core field operations) 15% Additional/Other Responsibilities as assigned 10% Social Media, Photos & Content Gleaning, Distribution & Data Entry ~75% of role Gleaning & Distribution Lead daily gleans in collaboration with the Logistics Manager or alone, dependent on glean schedule and team needs Transport all materials necessary for gleaning to the glean site: clippers, first aid kit, pickers, buckets, boxes, tarps, gloves Produce pickup in lieu of volunteer support Deliver produce to the appropriate partner sites Weekly box pick-ups Dispose of any molding produce in green bin Remove any plant material off pickers Determine destinations for available produce by considering demand, shelf-life, and availability of potential future produce by referencing gleans scheduled for future dates Volunteer Engagement & Coordination Coordinate volunteer engagement during gleans, distribution and events Engage with volunteers, new or existing, with a positive attitude Lead "Mission Moments" with volunteers explaining what we do, where produce goes and more Answer questions that may come up and dedicate time with volunteers before gleans to learn more about Farm to Pantry Communicate with volunteers regarding follow-up questions, cancellations and other communication as needed Data Entry & Harvest Records Enter gleaning and volunteer data into our tracking systems Weigh and record gleaned produce in the Gleaning Log Social Media, Photos & Content ~10% of role Take photos of volunteers at gleans, distribution and events, and post to social media Develop and post 1-3 social media posts monthly (gleaning, distribution, behind-the-scenes, etc.); turnaround time can vary depending on media type Remind Glean Team to also take photos during their gleans Create and distribute event flyer materials through Canva for events Additional, Other Responsibilities ~15% of role Administrative Enter volunteer opportunities through our public calendar Create volunteer opportunities through Salesforce Support Logistics and Distribution Manager with administrative tasks as needed Warehouse / Gear Maintenance Maintain warehouse and make sure it is in operable condition at all times Ensure company vehicles are clean inside and out Work with Director of Operations to ensure inventory is satisfactory Dispose of any cardboard boxes that are unusable for distribution in the building dumpster Maintain clippers: sharpen with file in tool-bag, strip off rust with light-grit sandpaper and WD-40 degreaser, oil hinges with lubricant Scrub buckets, dry and stack in appropriate location Wipe tarps clean before folding and storing Sweep floor of CoolBot once weekly Use vinegar-soaked rag to scrub shelves in CoolBot to stop mold growth Event Management & Community Engagement Attend and represent the organization at community events (tabling) occurs on the weekends or afternoons Represent Farm to Pantry at community presentations Develop and expand community connection initiatives Fundraising Projects Aid in the planning, coordinating, and execution of additional Farm to Pantry fundraising efforts, including olive oil project and vinegar project and other creative initiatives Support before, during and after annual fundraising events and other Farm to Pantry events Responsibilities of All Farm to Pantry Employees Attend biweekly staff meetings Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, record keeping, and report generation Represent organization at community and coalition meetings and events Aid in the weekly gleans and the distribution of produce to our partner organizations Sweep floor of CoolBot once weekly Vehicle, equipment, and office maintenance Additional duties as assigned Must possess a valid California drivers' license, proof of auto insurance and be insurable under agency policy if driving a company or personal vehicle.
Pay:
$23.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 - 40.0 per week
