Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the Growing Rural Opportunities for Wellness (GROW) program in Sutter County by building relationships with community members, local organizations, public agencies, and decision-makers to support tobacco prevention and community health efforts. This position helps ensure that community voices are included in local discussions and decisions that affect health and well-being, while working to increase awareness of tobacco-related issues and opportunities for positive community change. The Community Engagement Coordinator plans and conducts outreach activities, supports community meetings and events, helps recruit and engage coalition members and community partners, gathers community feedback, and assists with program implementation and reporting. The position works closely with the Program Coordinator and other California Health Collaborative staff and serves as a key link between the program, community partners, local leaders, and residents throughout Sutter County.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Build relationships with community members, local organizations, schools, businesses, public agencies, and other partners throughout Sutter County. Attend community events, meetings, and activities to connect with residents, share information, and encourage community involvement. Help recruit, support, and engage volunteers, coalition members, and community partners. Plan and assist with community meetings, trainings, presentations, workshops, and special events. Give presentations and provide information about tobacco prevention and other community health topics to community groups, organizations, and local leaders. Gather community feedback through surveys, interviews, conversations, and other outreach activities. Create and distribute outreach materials such as fact sheets, newsletters, presentations, social media posts, and other educational resources. Keep accurate records of community outreach activities, meetings, participant involvement, and program results, and assist with required reports and documentation.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Comfortable speaking with new people, facilitating meetings and presentations, representing the program in public settings, and engaging with community members, local leaders, public officials, and other stakeholders. Ability to develop clear, visually appealing outreach and communication materials, including presentations, newsletters, social media content, and other public-facing resources. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, maintain accurate records, and stay organized in a fast-paced work environment. Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms. Ability to travel throughout Sutter County and occasionally outside the county for meetings, trainings, and events.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Required:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. At least two years of experience in community outreach, community engagement, public health, education, communications, customer service, volunteer coordination, event planning, nonprofit programs, public service, or a related field.
Preferred:
Current residence in Sutter County and/or demonstrated knowledge of the county, its communities, and local issues. Experience creating outreach and communication materials such as newsletters, social media content, presentations, fact sheets, flyers, or other public-facing materials, such as by using Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design and communication tools. Experience working on public policy, advocacy, community organizing, civic engagement, or other efforts that involve educating decision-makers and participating in public decision-making processes. Experience building relationships and working directly with community members, volunteers, community groups, public agencies, schools, businesses, or other community partners. Experience speaking to groups, giving presentations, facilitating discussions, conducting outreach, or engaging with the public. Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly Spanish, Punjabi, or other languages commonly spoken in Sutter County.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is primarily remote and requires the employee to maintain a dedicated workspace with reliable internet access suitable for conducting virtual meetings and completing assigned work. California Health Collaborative will provide a laptop and other necessary office supplies. Regular travel is required for meetings, trainings, community events, outreach activities, and other program-related functions. The position requires frequent local travel throughout Sutter County and periodic travel to California Health Collaborative's Sacramento office and other locations for meetings, trainings, and events. Employees must possess a valid California driver's license, maintain personal automobile insurance, have access to a reliable vehicle, and be able to travel independently. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with organizational policies. Work is performed in a variety of settings, including home offices, community centers, schools, government buildings, conference rooms, and outdoor locations. Some events and outreach activities may take place outdoors and may require exposure to varying weather conditions, including high temperatures common during summer months in Sutter County. Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, driving, speaking, listening, and using a computer for extended periods. The position may occasionally require lifting and carrying materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
