Job Description

Position Overview The DA BUX Ambassador supports statewide outreach and education for the DA BUX program, helping residents better understand and access food assistance benefits. This role focuses on increasing awareness, supporting first-time users, and strengthening program visibility across grocery stores, community events, and partner activations. This is a community-facing role centered on education, engagement, and real-time support for participants and retail partners. Core Responsibilities Commit 30 service hours per calendar month (not to exceed) The Food Basket cannot demand additional hours. However, you may voluntarily provide additional service hours. Any additional hours in a month beyond the first 30 service hours cannot be compensated by The Food Basket. The Food Basket is not liable for workers compensation coverage for activities performed while volunteering. Follow guidance and directions as instructed by your direct supervisor. Your supervisor will further define and communicate other duties and responsibilities not included in this job description. Clearly explain how the DA BUX program works in simple, accessible terms Support first-time users with onboarding and benefit usage Answer questions and provide in-the-moment assistance Reinforce consistent program messaging across all touchpoints Engage with customers in grocery stores and retail environments Participate in tabling outreach at community events. Assist with food sampling and in-store demonstrations featuring DA BUX eligible items Support social media outreach and community engagement efforts Be open to assisting beyond the DA BUX program as needed, such as with packing customer produce orders or distribution of food. DA BUX Ambassador job duties DO NOT include handling of heavy or dangerous equipment, operation of a vehicle, or work on the ocean. Work performed that involves heavy or dangerous equipment, operation of a vehicle, or work on the ocean is beyond the scope of the DA BUX Ambassador program and should not be recorded as Ambassador service hours on monthly timesheets. Submit monthly timesheets to dabux@hawaiifoodbasket.org by the last day of each calendar month. Ambassadors must describe daily activities and receive their supervisor's signature of approval on timesheets prior to submitting. Ideal Candidate This position is suited for a student enrolled in high school or higher education pursuing a career in the fields of Agriculture, Business, Human Services, Public Health, or Public Administration. Recent graduates are also welcome to apply Strong communication and interpersonal skills Comfortable engaging with the public in community and retail settings Reliable, proactive, and community-minded Familiarity with online information sharing platforms such as Zoom, Google Spreadsheets, Google Docs, and Dropbox. Intuition to ask for help from co-workers or supervisor when unable to complete a task. Attention to details, including by double-checking work for errors to produce accurate results. Experience in outreach, retail, education, or customer service is a plus. Schedule & Availability Commit 30 service hours per calendar month (not to exceed) Flexible scheduling based on outreach and events Must be available weekdays and weekends Statewide travel required depending on assignment Compensation $540 per month ($270/bi-monthly pay period) Part-time, contract position through August 2027
