Job Description
Outreach Assistant -
Part-time Position Compensation:
$18/h The Howard County Conservancy is looking for a passionate and engaging educator to join our team as a part-time, on-call Outreach Assistant. The ideal candidate will be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the program, have a love of education and nature, and a passion for working with children. Our educators provide a safe and inclusive learning space while giving students opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration. The Outreach Assistant position provides outreach through a variety of programs at the Conservancy and at school and community sites, including working with the Conservancy's owls, snakes, and terrapins. This position requires a confident and engaging presenter who can adapt to a variety of learning environments and age groups. Key Responsibilities- Assist with and independently lead engaging elementary outreach programs at local schools and community centers
- Lead weekend birthday parties for kids aged 5-12 and scout programs as scheduled
- Lead Meet and Greets at weddings and other rental events
- Safely handle Conservancy animals, including owls and snakes, in accordance with established protocols
- Prepare, transport, and set up educational materials and live animals for outreach programs.
- Assist with the development and improvement of educational programming as needed
- Serves as an active member of the staff team.
- Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications
- Pass background check
- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Proven communication skills and solid decision-making skills
- Work effectively with a variety of clients and staff
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and roles patiently and professionally
- Ability to lift and carry program materials and animal carriers. Position duties include bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 pounds. Desired Qualifications
- Experience teaching educational programs for elementary-aged children in formal or informal settings
- Experience working with live animals Time Commitment
