First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Portland
MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR
First Parish is a Unitarian Universalist congregation in the heart of Portland, Maine. We are a theologically, culturally, and economically diverse congregation, welcoming and affirming all people who seek a religious community while practicing, creating, or discovering a personal spiritual path. Our church is growing and we are seeking to hire a part-time (2o hours per week Sept-June and limited hours in July and August) Membership Coordinator whose primary responsibility will be to cultivate, welcome, and support new members joining our church. This position reports to the Minister. Essential Functions Welcome, onboard and support new members as they follow the "Path to Membership." This includes outreach to prospective and new members and developing and maintaining materials for new member packets. Coordinate classes and events for newcomers and new members and track attendance at these events. Help new members and congregants to identify ways to become more involved in the church through committee and volunteer work, chalice groups, religious exploration classes, and other opportunities. Work with the Membership Team to support programs and events that encourageencourage continuous member outreach and engagement, and to ensure newcomers are greeted and welcomed each Sunday during Coffee Hour. Act as House Manager on Sunday mornings during worship services, including logging attendance and directing the work of the ushers. (One Sunday off per month.) Manage the usher program, including providing training and applying instructional materials related to ushering duties. Attend monthly Membership Team meetings and other ad hoc events. Oversee Membership and Welcome Team budgets, including tracking expenses for the Finance Committee. Manage and update the membership database and neighborhood group lists. Assist the Stewardship Team and other committees on issues related to membership. Manage the church's social media accounts including creating content for and monitoring First Parish's Facebook and Instagram pages. Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the Minister to discuss Membership and related topics and other aspects of the work. Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and other committee meetings related to the membership functions. Contribute to the Contribute to monthly Staff Report forfor the Minister and Minister and Governing Board. Job Qualifications Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with members, staff, visitors, and others. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Excellent attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and quality. Familiarity with creating engaging content for social media. Understanding of, or interest in, Unitarian Universalism or similar liberal faith traditions. Proficient in Microsoft Excel & Word, Google Drive, Canva, Facebook and Instagram. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Familiarity working with membership databases is a plus. Hours and Schedule From September 1st - June 30th, the Membership Coordinator is expected to work 20 hours per week. The weekly schedule is flexible but requires regular office hours, onsite presence on Sundays (with one Sunday off each month), and for bi-weekly staff meetings. Sundays off need to be planned in advance and scheduled on the Staff and Worship Calendars. During the months of July and August, the Membership Coordinator is expected to work 20 hours per month, the specifics of which will be determined with the Minister.
