Job Summary This is a full-time, on-site position (35 hours per week). The Portsmouth Housing Authority (PHA) is a dynamic, mission-driven, and team-oriented organization that owns and operates over 650 affordable rental units across 13 properties in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Since 1953, PHA has served low- and moderate-income residents through housing and supportive programs, including a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program (serving 750+ individuals), a Resident Services Coordination program (serving 1,500+ residents), a 21st Century after-school program, and a nonprofit childcare center.

https://www.porthousing.org PHA is seeking a Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) to support residents in maintaining stable, independent, and fulfilling lives. The RSC connects residents with resources, helps them navigate services, and advocates on their behalf when needed. This role emphasizes a respectful, nonjudgmental, and confidential approach that promotes dignity, autonomy, and empowerment. A significant portion of this role focuses on planning and coordinating events, workshops, and activities, as well as bringing community resources directly on-site to PHA propertie s to improve accessibility and engagement for residents. This position operates within a highly collaborative, team-focused environment , while also requiring a strong ability to work independently , manage priorities, and take initiative in supporting residents. Key Responsibilities Assess resident needs and connect individuals to appropriate programs, services, and resources Build strong, trusting relationships with residents through outreach, communication, and ongoing support Plan, coordinate, and implement events, workshops, and community activities that enhance resident engagement Partner with local organizations to bring services and resources on-site to PHA properties Collaborate with the Resident Services team to develop programs that reflect community needs Maintain regular communication through phone calls, office hours, flyers, and monthly calendars Perform administrative duties including data entry, scheduling, filing, and creating communications Conduct research and respond to inquiries in a timely, professional manner Partner with Property Managers to advocate for residents and serve as a liaison between residents, management, and the broader community Welcome and orient new residents to available resources and services Develop partnerships with community organizations to expand available programming Identify residents needing additional support and promote retention, wellness, and community engagement Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with HUD requirements Adhere to mandated reporting requirements for adult and child protective services Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively Genuine interest in working with and supporting diverse populations Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Canva, and general/basic computer skills is required Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality Flexibility to meet program and resident needs
Important Note:
A background in mental health and/or human services is not required , but it is highly valued and can contribute to success in this role.

Experience or familiarity with affordable housing, resident services, or community-based programs Experience working with low- and moderate-income populations, seniors, or individuals with disabilities Spanish language skills are a plus Work Environment This role is grounded in a team-based approach , where collaboration, communication, and shared goals drive success. At the same time, the position requires a high level of independence, initiative, and self-direction , as Coordinators are trusted to manage their responsibilities and respond proactively to resident needs.
