Executive Director Sixteenth Street Business Improvement District #38 Milwaukee, WI Job Details Part-time | Contract From $30,000 a year 1 day ago Qualifications Spanish Community engagement Event planning Fundraising experience within non-profit organizations English Economic development Small business experience Project management Fundraising Newsletters (communication methods) Full Job Description The Sixteenth Street BID# 38 is seeking a dynamic and community-centered part-time Executive Director (approximately 20 hours per week) to provide leadership and support to the Board of Directors in advancing the organization's mission, programs, and strategic goals. The BID 38 Business District Association is a collaborative network of business owners, residents, community organizations, and stakeholders committed to strengthening Milwaukee's South Side. The BID works to cultivate a corridor that is safe, vibrant, economically thriving, and culturally inclusive while celebrating the rich identity and entrepreneurship of the Sixteenth Street corridor. The Executive Director will oversee the daily administration, communication, outreach, financial coordination, community engagement, event planning, and implementation of BID initiatives and Operating Plan activities. This position requires a highly organized, proactive, and relationship-driven individual capable of working across multiple projects and community partnerships. Key ResponsibilitiesCorridor Improvement & Development Coordinate implementation of streetscaping and beautification projects identified in the BID Operating Plan. Assist in the development and coordination of future Operating Plans and corridor improvement initiatives. Coordinate projects involving walkways, benches, bus stops, bike racks, planters, murals, lighting, public art, and other beautification enhancements throughout the BID boundaries. Collaborate with property owners and businesses to improve the appearance and functionality of the corridor. Coordinate volunteer clean-up efforts and neighborhood beautification activities. Event Planning & Community Activation Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of BID-sponsored events, festivals, markets, and community activations. Coordinate with businesses, vendors, artists, performers, sponsors, and community partners to support successful corridor events. Assist in developing signature events such as Cinco de Mayo, Viva Nuestra Herencia, Tinsguis/pop-up markets, and Dia de Los Muertos, celebrations, neighborhood markets, cultural festivals, business promotions, holiday activities, and community engagement initiatives. Support event logistics including permits, outreach, vendor coordination, marketing, sponsorships, and volunteer management. Experience in event planning, community programming, or festival coordination is strongly preferred. Business & Community Engagement Maintain clear and consistent communication with businesses, property owners, community stakeholders, foundations, and City departments. Provide businesses with information regarding grants, technical assistance, funding opportunities, and corridor resources. Develop and maintain a highly visible presence within the community and represent the BID at meetings, events, and public functions. Collaborate with neighborhood organizations, nonprofits, City departments, and economic development partners. Organizational Administration & Governance Support the Board of Directors through meeting coordination, agenda preparation, note-taking, and ongoing communication. Assist with financial tracking, annual budget preparation, Operating Plan reporting, and materials required for Board and City approvals. Strengthen organizational governance through board development, committee coordination, and strategic planning support. Manage administrative operations for the BID and maintain organized records and communications. Grant Writing, Sponsorships & Fundraising Research, identify, and support grant and funding opportunities that align with BID initiatives and priorities. Coordinate with foundations, sponsors, and funding partners to support organizational sustainability and corridor programming. Assist in sponsorship outreach and fundraising efforts for events and BID initiatives. Experience with grant writing, fundraising, sponsorship development, or nonprofit funding is preferred but not required. Marketing & Communications Maintain and update BID social media platforms, newsletters, and website content. Prepare press releases, community updates, promotional materials, and event communications. Support marketing efforts that strengthen the identity and visibility of the Cesar Chavez corridor. Qualifications The ideal candidate will bring experience in some combination of the following areas: Community or economic development Event planning and community programming Nonprofit management Small business support Public policy or local government Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) Community engagement and outreach Grant writing, fundraising, or sponsorship development Corridor revitalization or placemaking initiatives Additional qualifications include: Associate degree preferred but not required Strong written and verbal communication skills Organizational and project management abilities Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and community groups Ability to work independently, proactively, and manage multiple priorities Experience with social media, outreach, and public engagement Bilingual English/Spanish candidates strongly preferred
