This person must:
Operate out of a mature, Scripture-formed love for Jesus Christ Have a genuine passion for the spiritual formation of children and youth in partnership with their families Be energized by building ministry from a place of personal calling and gifting Proactively recruit, train, and deploy volunteer teams Partner well with parents as the primary disciplers of their children Align with the ECO Essential Tenets and the Reformed evangelical faith of our congregation Purpose of This Role The Director of Family Ministries provides unified leadership over both the Children's Ministry (Birth-5th Grade) and the Youth Ministry (6th-12th Grade) at First Presbyterian Church of Griffin. Recognizing that effective ministry leaders are most fruitful when operating within their area of greatest calling, this role is structured with intentional flexibility: The Director will directly lead one ministry area — either Children's or Youth — based on their personal gifting, experience, and calling as discerned through the hiring process. The Director will coordinate and provide oversight for the other ministry area, ensuring health, vision alignment, volunteer support, and programming continuity. Both ministry areas fall under the full authority and care of this position. This structure is designed not to diminish either area, but to allow the Director to lead from their deepest gifting while maintaining holistic oversight of the whole family ministry. Desired Impact of This Role Children and Youth experience safe, fun, Christ-centered environments that lead to genuine spiritual formation and a lifelong walk with Jesus Kids and Students demonstrate a grasp of faith fundamentals and are equipped for discipleship through meaningful ministry milestones Volunteer Leaders are well-trained, well-resourced, and serving on a sustainable and healthy rotation Parents regularly affirm that the ministry is a positive, spiritually enriching experience for their families Family discipleship resources are consistently made available to parents, equipping them to lead in the home Griffin-area families — including those connected to local schools and community organizations — are reached through well-planned outreach events Primary Ministry Responsibilities Programming Develop, lead, and continually improve weekly Sunday programming for the primary age group Oversee and teach midweek programming (e.g., Wednesday night programs, small groups) Build and maintain a curriculum strategy that is age-appropriate and rooted in Scripture along side discipleship team Volunteer Leadership Recruit, train, shepherd, and retain a healthy team of volunteer leaders Ensure volunteers are well-resourced, appreciated, and serving on a sustainable rotation Relational Ministry Build authentic, caring relationships with children/students and their families Provide pastoral presence and support during key life moments and challenges Outreach Develop intentional outreach strategies to connect unchurched children/ youth and their families to the church and the gospel Represent First Presbyterian in the Griffin community through school and neighborhood engagement Coordinating Ministry Responsibilities Provide strategic vision, regular check-ins, and leadership support for the coordinated ministry Develop and support any staff, interns, or key volunteer leaders in that area Ensure programming quality, child safety compliance, and ministry health Maintain budget oversight and resource stewardship for the coordinated area Step in actively during key events, transitions, or gaps in leadership coverage Special Events Plan and execute a summer Vacation Bible School (VBS) experience open to the Griffin community Plan and execute seasonal family events (e.g., Family Advent Experience, Easter Celebration) Create, plan, and execute Youth Ministry retreats and trips Partner with the broader church on community outreach events Education, Experience & Skills Education BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university (required) Degree or coursework in Ministry, Christian Education, Theology, or related field (preferred) Master's degree in Ministry or Christian Education (preferred) Experience context 3+ years of ministry experience with children, youth, or families in a church Proven experience recruiting, developing, and deploying volunteer teams Teaching experience with children and/or youth, with an understanding of age-appropriate spiritual formation Experience in both Children's and Youth Ministry contexts (preferred) Skills & Abilities Friendly, relational, and able to draw others — children, students, parents, and volunteers — into genuine community Clear and engaging communicator in both speaking and writing Detail-oriented self-starter capable of working independently and managing multiple ministry areas Collaborative team player who works well with staff and church leadership Expectations Committed to making First Presbyterian Church of Griffin your church home and primary faith community Embodies the mission of the church through a lifestyle of hospitality, evangelism, and neighbor love Acts as an advocate for the vision and culture of First Presbyterian Church of Griffin Christian faith aligned with the ECO Essential Tenets and the beliefs of First Presbyterian Church of Griffin Commits to and exhibits the core values of our congregation: ◦ Jesus-Centered — Everything flows from the person and work of Christ ◦ Grace-Rooted — We lead and serve from the gospel, not for it ◦ Family-Connected — We partner with parents as the first disciplers ◦ Community-Focused — We love Griffin and long to see it flourish How to Apply To apply for the position please submit the following: Cover Letter Resume Statement of Faith 3 References The requested documents can be send to fpcjobs@fpcgriffin.org or church office@fpcgriffin.org .
