Overview:
Carter Memorial UMC is looking for an enthusiastic, faithful and creative Director of Children and Youth Ministries (DCYM) to provide vision, leadership, and coordination for our ministry with children, youth, and their families. The DCYM will work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor, Children and Youth Ministry teams, volunteers, parents and church leadership to create meaningful opportunities for children and youth to grow in their faith, deepen their spiritual lives, and experience the love and support of a Christian community.
Responsibilities:
Create a welcoming, enthusiastic and meaningful environment for children and youth to grow in their faith formation and spiritual development Conduct an annual educational needs assessment to identify interest areas and opportunities for faith formation and spiritual growth Implement a comprehensive curriculum and associated age-appropriate learning goals that address the identified needs and interests Recruit and train teachers and program volunteers (as needed) from the congregation, and foster a culture of shared responsibility and community Oversee children and youth Sunday school programs providing support, including teaching, as required. Deliver a children's message during the weekly worship service Guide the structuring and planning of children and youth special events, including, but not limited to: Christmas Pageant, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation, Youth Retreat, Youth mission trip, Outings and Activities Responsible for communicating and updating children and youth ministries through the church newsletter, weekly emails, personal notes to volunteers, parents and students, or other communication vehicles Develop and manage the annual budget for children and youth programs, following church financial policies Supervise a part-time Church Nursery Worker (if required)
Qualifications :
A sincere faith in God and a commitment to Christian faith and service, including knowledge of scripture and an understanding of the Bible's great themes Formal training in Christian Education, or equivalent experience with Christian Education and faith development Flexibility to work with the diversity of theological understandings and faith backgrounds within the Carter Memorial UMC congregation Have a passion for working with children, youth and families in their faith development and growth. Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills - including delegating responsibilities and group facilitation Strong writing skills, public speaking and communication skills Strong computer skills including social media and other digital communication tools The successful candidate must read and agree to abide by the Safe Sanctuary Policy as adopted by Carter Memorial United Methodist Church. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a CORI background check and meeting all applicable church Safe Sanctuary requirements.
Benefits:
2 Weeks (40 hours) of vacation accrued annually. Paid Sick Time up to a maximum of 40 hours per year.
Professional and Ministry Expenses:
Up to $1500 per year is available for eligible work-related mileage, continuing education, and approved business expenses.
