GRACE HAVEN RESPITE CARE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS MEASURABLE GOALS DESCRIPTION
To provide compassionate leadership and clear direction for the
GRACE HAVEN
Community Respite Ministry of LaBelle Haven Baptist Church (LHBC) while promoting an environment of connection, joy and dignity for all involved. This position reports directly to Pastor Dean Stewart. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
CHURCH COLLABERATION
  • Follow all LHBC church policies and
GRACE HAVEN
Respite Ministry policies including safety, weather plan, and fire safety.
  • Work collaberatively with LHBC staff, congregation, and other ministries.
  • Report pertinent information to Pastor Dean Stewart and/or appropriate LHBC staff to resolve problems in a timely fashion.
  • Meet with Pastor Dean Stewart on a regular basis to review the needs of the participants, the volunteers, the Director, and the ministry.
VOLUNTEERS
  • Coordinate training of current volunteers at least two times a year or as often as needed.
  • Recruit and train new volounteers quarterly or as needed ensuring a minimum of 1 volunteer per 2 participants.
  • Coordinate volunteer's days and hours.
  • Plan volunteer annual appreciation event.
  • Establish a survey for volunteers to report level of satisfaction on their experience.
  • Direct volunteers on a daily basis to include appropriate expectations for their roles. PROGRAM
  • Be on-site for each session including set-up, break-down and volunteer meetings before and after the program.
  • Plan, develop and participate in an enriching, cognitive-enhancing curriculum for each session that includes a daily schedule of activities for the program participants.
  • Coordinate, lead and allow volunteers the opportunity to lead in the daily schedule that include brain stretching activities, devotions, chair exercise, active games, scheduling guest speakers, preparing educational information, dementia appropriate adult art projects, music, and service projects.
  • Demonstrate positive day-to-day interactions with others by offering compassion, empathy, careful listening, and kindness.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Shop for supplies as needed.
  • Maintain CPR certification, or ensure that a volunteer is present who is certified.
FAMILY SUPPORT
  • Provide compassionate listening for participants and caregivers at all times.
  • Conduct monthly "Grace In Mind" caregiver support group meetings including educational information on dementia and resources of services available.
  • Create monthly newsletters for families that highlight what is happening at Grace Haven.
  • Establish a survey for families to report level of satisfaction and give suggestions to improve the program.
OUTREACH/MARKETING
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility within Desoto county and surrounding communities to spread the word about the quality care received at
GRACE HAVEN.
  • Coordinate participation monthly in local farmers markets in Hernando and Olive Branch.
  • Coordinate participation in other events such as health fairs and LHBC craft/auto falr.
  • Coordinate service with Home Health care agencies and other community service agencies.
  • Establish and maintain connections to religious and justice-minded leaders in Desoto county and surrounding communities.
  • Cultivate relationships with corporations, foundations and donors to provide financial support for scholarships.
  • Make presentations highlighting Grace Haven Respite and the advantages of respite care.
ADMINISTRATION
  • Reach out to families interested in programs offered. This may include several weeks of follow-up communitcation before the participant is ready to enroll in Grace Haven.
  • Recruit, assess and enroll participants in program.
  • Complete and submit billing for each family in a timely manner.
  • Provide quarterly updates to Pastor Dean Stewart.
  • Stay informed of state regulations for respite programs in the Mississippi.
  • Grace Haven is a member of the "Respite For All Foundation.
" Network with the foundation as well as other professionals in the Desoto county and surrounding communities in order to stay abreast of updated information related to respite care. Attend "Respite For All Foundation" conference annually. Include volunteers as budget allows.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) plus 4 years of experience working with dementia OR the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Background in social work and/or ministries preferred.
  • Experience in programs that provide care to aduts with memory loss.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteer recruitment and empower participation in the ministry.
  • Demonstrate a heart for justice and God's love so as to offer dignity to others.
  • Familiar with budgets and reporting.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups from LHBC, program participants, caregivers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Computer skills including a working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software and research.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision and ability to focus
  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to stoop or kneel.
MEASURABLE GOALS
  • Recruit 15 participants for each day of programming within 18 months.
  • Increase respite days to four days within 24 months after completion of church building expansion that includes a separate space for Grace Haven.
  • Achieve and maintain a 90% satisfaction rate from volunteers and participant's families.
Pay:
$25.00 per hour
