First Church - Downtown Oklahoma City, OK Position Overview The Director of Children's Ministries leads the spiritual formation and discipleship of children from birth through 5th grade. This role is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children grow in their faith, families feel supported, and the church connects with the broader downtown OKC community. Key Responsibilities 1.
Enforce church safety policies and child protection protocols (including background checks and volunteer training).
Inventory & Supplies:
Manage inventory for nursery supplies, Sunday School materials, Wednesday night lessons, and hands-on activity resources.
Budget Oversight:
Help plan and manage the annual children's ministry budget. 3.
Volunteer Leadership & Parent Communication Volunteer Management:
Recruit, train, schedule, and encourage volunteers and paid childcare staff for Sunday, Wednesday, and seasonal programs.
Parent Engagement:
Maintain regular, clear communication with parents regarding curriculum, events, and family resources. 4. Outreach, Events & Special Programs Vacation Bible School (VBS): Direct and execute the annual summer VBS program.
Community Events:
Collaborate with church staff to plan and execute church- and community-wide events (e.g., Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt).
Project Transformation Liaison:
Serve as the primary point of contact for the weekly Project Transformation after-school reading program.
School & Community Partnerships:
Build and maintain supportive relationships with local elementary school leadership to coordinate joint events, foster community connection, and create open channels of communication for family support needs.
Worship Integration:
Partner with the Worship Director to teach children songs for special worship services (e.g., Palm Sunday, Mother's Day, Father's Day). 5.
