Position:
Full Time, Benefits Eligible. Position Summary The Director of Faith Formation & Sacramental Preparation is a missionary disciple responsible for forming children, youth, and families in a living relationship with Jesus Christ within the life of the Catholic Church. This role oversees all parish faith formation for children and youth, as well as preparation for the sacraments, ensuring that formation is rooted in evangelization, fidelity to Church teaching, and a vibrant culture of discipleship..
MISSIONAL FOCUS
This is not simply a program management role. The Director is a pastoral leader who:
  • Builds a culture of faith, not just religious education classes
  • Forms catechists and parents as missionary disciples
  • Helps families become the primary place of faith formation
  • Ensures sacramental preparation leads to encounter with Christ, not just completion of requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
Sacramental Preparation Oversee preparation for:
  • Baptism (infants and young children, parent formation)
  • First Reconciliation
  • First Holy Communion
  • Confirmation Responsibilities include:
  • Designing and implementing formation programs for both children and parents
  • Ensuring preparation is evangelizing, engaging, and faithful to Church teaching
  • Coordinating sacramental liturgies with clergy and liturgy staff
  • Maintaining sacramental records in collaboration with parish office 2.Children's Faith Formation (K-5)
  • Oversee parish religious education programs
  • Develop curriculum and formation experiences
  • Recruit, train, and support catechists
  • Move beyond classroom-only models toward interactive, encounter- based formation 3.Youth Ministry & Formation (Middle School & High School)
  • Build and oversee youth formation programs
  • Create opportunities for retreats, small groups, and community- building
  • Collaborate across Hispanic, Vietnamese, and Anglo communities where appropriate
  • Help young people move from sacramental prep to ongoing discipleship 4.Family-Based Formation
  • Equip parents to live and teach the faith at home
  • Offer formation opportunities for parents alongside their children
  • Foster a parish culture that supports the domestic church 5.Catechist & Volunteer Leadership
  • Recruit, train, and mentor catechists and volunteers
  • Provide ongoing spiritual and doctrinal formation
  • Build a team culture marked by joy, unity, and mission 6.Evangelization & Parish Integration
  • Help integrate families more fully into parish life
  • Collaborate with parish staff to build a missionary and welcoming culture
  • Support parish-wide initiatives, retreats, and evangelization efforts
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church
  • Strong knowledge of Catholic teaching
  • Active sacramental life and commitment to prayer
  • Experience in catechesis, teaching, or ministry
  • Strong leadership and relational skills
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in sacramental preparation
  • Background in youth ministry or family ministry
  • Ability to work across cultures (Hispanic, Vietnamese, Anglo)
  • Bilingual abilities (especially Spanish or Vietnamese)

  • Is relational, approachable, and able to connect with families
  • Brings energy, creativity, and pastoral sensitivity
  • Can move people from obligation to encounter
  • Loves the Church and desires to build her up
Work Schedule:
  • Full-time position
  • Evenings and weekends required, especially during sacramental seasons

Pastor A candidate may fully assent to the teachings of the Church and yet not possess the particular missionary spirit and pastoral leadership needed to build a dynamic and evangelizing culture of faith formation.
