Position:
Part-time, exempt, not benefits eligible.Position Summary:
Provides leadership in the implementation and administration of religious education programs for children, youth, and adult parishioners to provide opportunities to enhance their faith through religious education.Primary Responsibilities:
- Works under the supervision of the Pastor, and with other staff members to integrate adult religious education into the overall mission of the parish.
- Participates in the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of the parish's programs, goals and objectives, with specific focus on children and adult religious education.
- Collaborates with the Pastor in the planning of Children and Adult Religious Education classes.
- Evaluates and provides materials for use in adult religious education classes.
- Establishes and maintains calendar of classes, training, activities and events.
- Ensures that opportunities are available for liturgical worship services in all Children and Adult Religious Education programs.
- Recruits, motivates and trains volunteers to be Adult Education catechist, presenters/facilitators/team members.
- Presents the teachings of the Catholic Church, according to the catechetical principles enunciated in Church documents (universal, national and Archdiocesan), to catechists and others.
- Provides ongoing education, training, and opportunities for spiritual growth for Adult Religious Education of catechists and team members
- Utilizes children and adult learning styles in planning and implementing programs.
- Is visibly present at principal parish events.
- Develops and manages budgets for Adult Religious Education program, approved by the Pastor.
- Maintains regular office hours.
- Makes recommendations for inclusion of materials in the religious education resource library.
- Maintains current and accurate Children, Adult Religious Education Program records as needed.
- Coordinates Sacramental Preparation for children (Children's Catechumenate, First Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation) for all the children of the parish which involves the parents and the domestic church.
- Serves as a professional resource to staff in the area of adult religious education.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Processes background checks and coordinates Safe Environment programs as required.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Pastor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Position operates within established lines of authority.
- Position encounters recurring work situations with minimal variations from the norm.
- Position is responsible for some decision making within area of professional expertise. Actions could result in delays and errors in paperwork and interactions.
- Proven ability in organizational and communications skills and an understanding of faith development.
- Must be able to prioritize workload to meet program requirements.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a pastoral team.
- Must be flexible, creative and responsible.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Religious Education or Theology or a Certificate of Ministry.
- Five years experience in parish work or related field. Demonstrated ability to successfully conduct workshops.
- Valid driver's license.
