Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Job Summary The Cantor serves the parish by leading and encouraging the congregation in sung prayer during Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Working collaboratively with the music director, clergy, choir members, and accompanists, the cantor helps foster active participation in the liturgy through music that reflects the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church. Job Responsibilities Lead congregational singing during weekend Masses, holy days, weddings, funerals, and other liturgical services Proclaim the Responsorial Psalm and sing Gospel Acclamations when assigned Prepare assigned music prior to liturgies Attend rehearsals and coordinate with the music director and accompanists Support prayerful and reverent worship through effective leadership and presence Follow liturgical guidelines and seasonal music selections appropriate to the Catholic Church Assist in special parish liturgies and music ministry events as needed Arrive punctually for rehearsals and liturgical celebrations Job Requirements Strong vocal ability and confidence leading congregational singing Ability to read music and follow liturgical music arrangements Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and worship practices preferred Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, musicians, and volunteers Professionalism, reliability, and appropriate church demeanor Prior cantor, choir, or vocal performance experience preferred The Archdiocese of St. Louis is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
