- Part-time Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Formation Leader to establish a youth program at St.
James Episcopal Church. We desire a leader who nurtures the spiritual, social, and emotional growth of a multi-age youth program, spanning preschool to high school, within the congregation. This role focuses on building relationships; planning and leading faith-based instruction; coordinating, educating and mentoring volunteers; and creating a welcoming and engaging youth community aligned with the mission and values of the church. Initial programming will include traditional Sunday School at least twice a month plus other youth activities once or twice a month. The Youth Formation Leader is expected to support and uphold the mission, values, and teachings of the church and serve as a positive role model for youth and families. T Key Responsibilities Program Leadership Apply knowledge of church teaching, faith curriculum and faith instruction to establish a regular instruction class for pre-school and school age youth. Relational Ministry Build positive, mentoring relationships with children and their families. Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants. Maintain appropriate pastoral boundaries and confidentiality. Volunteer Coordination Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers and college-age assistants. Provide guidance, schedules, and clear expectations for volunteer roles. Foster a collaborative team environment. Communication & Administration Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about activities, schedules, and expectations. Coordinate with church staff and ministry leaders to align child faith instruction and programming with church initiatives. Maintain attendance records, program plans, and basic administrative documentation. Assist with managing youth ministry budgets and supplies as assigned. Safety & Compliance Adhere to all church policies related to child protection, safe environment training, and background checks for all volunteers and temporary staff. Ensure proper supervision and safety procedures are followed at all events and activities. Qualifications Required Two years of recent experience providing faith instruction to youth
- or•completion of formalized training in youth faith instruction, theology or ministry.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth (across all age categories) and their parents. Ability to work independently while collaborating with staff and volunteers. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional retreats or trips. Lead and participate in active games or events, including indoor and outdoor activities in a variety of settings. Preferred Experience leading youth ministry programming. Familiarity with the traditions and practices of the congregation or denomination.
