The iSchool Admissions Counselor serves as a frontline recruitment, admissions, and engagement professional supporting both undergraduate and graduate programs at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool). This role is responsible for managing prospective student pipelines from inquiry through matriculation, delivering consistent and high-quality engagement across the full enrollment funnel. The Admissions Counselor manages and maintains the iSchools prospective student data within the universitys CRM system (Slate), ensuring accurate tracking of student interactions, application status, and communication history. The counselor will leverage CRM data to identify pipeline trends, prioritize outreach, and generate reports that inform recruitment strategy in collaboration with central enrollment services and the iSchool admissions team. A key component of this role is designing and executing specialized programming to showcase the iSchools academic offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This includes developing and facilitating on-campus visit experiences, virtual information sessions, sample classes, workshops, and immersive programming that introduces prospective students to the breadth and depth of iSchool programs. The counselor will also develop targeted off-campus programming in select markets to raise the iSchools profile and engage prospective students where they are. This position works closely with central Enrollment Services, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the iSchools academic and admissions teams to ensure coordinated, strategic, and mission-aligned recruitment efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree required, Masters preferred, in business, information systems, higher education, marketing, communications or related field. A valid driving license is required. The ability to obtain a passport is required.
Skills and Knowledge:
One to three years of sales/marketing experience or university-level recruitment is strongly preferred. Excellent organization, planning and project management experience Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of establishing and maintaining strong rapport through distance communication tools. Excellent customer service skills and event management experience is favorable. Strong computer skills to including Word and Excel are required. Database, web analytics and CRM experience is favorable. Ability to maintain, analyze, and report enrollment data to inform recruitment strategy and support data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Outreach Execute recruitment travel and virtual outreach for undergraduate and graduate audiences in coordination with central offices of undergraduate and graduate admissions. In alignment with the central outreach plan, participate in on-campus and off-campus events, including open houses, information sessions, high school visits, transfer fairs, corporate/industry visits, etc. Deliver presentations to prospective students and families; represent the iSchool at school-wide divisional recruitment activities. Design and facilitate specialized programming to highlight the iSchool and its academic offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Programming may include sample classes, academic workshops, information panels, career exploration sessions, and immersive campus experiences that bring iSchool programs to life for prospective students and their families. The counselor will also develop targeted off-campus programming in key metropolitan markets to expand iSchool brand awareness and build regional prospect pipelines. Admissions Support & Application Review Review undergraduate and graduate applications where applicable (e.g., first-year candidates, external transfer applicants, dual, and certificate programs). Support current Syracuse University undergraduates in exploring and pursuing graduate study at the iSchool upon completion of their undergraduate degree, including advising on pathways, program fit, and the application process. Make admissions and scholarship recommendations in consultation with the iSchool admissions team (graduate) and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, ensuring alignment with program standards and institutional goals. Ensure timely and accurate processing of admissions decisions and documentation. Maintain consistent evaluation standards as defined by the iSchool Director of Admissions. Prospective Student Engagement Serve as a primary point of contact for undergraduate and graduate prospects via email, phone, chat sessions, virtual and in-person appointments. Provide high-quality customer service, ensuring timely responses and proactive follow-up.
Guide students across the funnel:
inquiry application, admitted yield, matriculated. Conduct targeted outreach to Syracuse University Summer College students, introducing them to iSchool undergraduate and graduate programs and fostering early interest in the iSchool community. Proactively engage current SU undergraduates across all schools and colleges who may be considering graduate study, building relationships that position the iSchool as a top choice for their continued academic and professional development. Event Planning & Yield Activities Assist with the execution of yield events across undergraduate and graduate cycles (e.g., Admitted Student Days, webinars, program info sessions). Coordinate with faculty, student services, advising, and student ambassadors to support recruitment and yield efforts. Plan and travel to visit high schools and attend undergraduate college fairs; develop and execute specialized iSchool recruitment programming in key metropolitan markets to build regional pipelines and expand brand awareness at the undergraduate level. Attend graduate school fairs and other graduate-level recruitment events, both domestically and potentially internationally, to generate awareness of iSchool masters programs and build a diverse pipeline of qualified graduate applicants.
