This role involves working closely with families to identify their needs, develop action plans, and connect them with community services. The specialist also manages the visitation and Storybook programs. Key Responsibilities Assessment and Planning
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of family needs, strengths, and challenges.
  • Develop individualized family service plans in collaboration with family members.
  • Set realistic goals and objectives to address identified needs.
  • Faciliate and organize monthly visitation program
  • Facilitate and organize storybook program Support and Advocacy
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to families in crisis or facing challenges.
  • Advocate for families to ensure they receive appropriate services and support.
  • Assist families in navigating systems such as healthcare, education, and social services. Resource Coordination
  • Connect families with community resources, including housing, food assistance, healthcare, and counseling.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available resources and services in the community.
  • Coordinate with other service providers to ensure a holistic approach to family support. Education and Skill Building
  • Facilitate parenting education and skill-building workshops.
  • Provide information and training on topics such as child development, effective communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Empower families with tools and strategies to improve family dynamics and child well-being. Case Management
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions, assessments, and services provided.
  • Monitor progress toward goals and adjust service plans as needed.
  • Conduct follow-up visits and check-ins to ensure ongoing support and stability. Collaboration and Outreach
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders.
  • Participate in community outreach activities to promote awareness of family support services.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices. Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field (required).
  • Master's degree in social work or a related field (preferred). Experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in family support, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and families in crisis. Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in case management and documentation. Attributes

  • Typically works in an office setting, with frequent travel to meet with families in their homes or other community locations

  • Some interviews are conducted inside the prison (Tutwiler, Montgomery Women's Facility or Birmingham Work Release)
