(Re-engagement Exploration in Learning) Caseworker Job Description 2025-2026 Academic YearPOSITION PURPOSE
The REEL Caseworker will use best practices to: (1) identify youth at risk of dropping out of school or who have already disengaged; (2) provide strength-based assessments of students' academic, career, and personal interests; (3) develop individualized service plans including academic, career, and life goals with actionable steps; and (4) implement ongoing monitoring and evaluation systems. The REEL Caseworker will connect students to Southwest Open School (SWOS) programming, including core courses, self-paced learning, and concurrent enrollment opportunities, as well as community-based supports such as social services, internships, and career pathways. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field preferred) Experience working in a school setting, preferably with high school-aged students Experience working with at-risk or disengaged youth strongly preferred Ability to pass a criminal background check Strong written and verbal communication skillsGENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/GOALS

Staff are expected to fulfill all assigned duties, including campus responsibilities, meetings, and school events, in a professional and timely manner.REEL CASEWORKER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicate regularly with administration, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders Provide intensive case management for approximately 15-20 high-needs students and families Support and expand concurrent enrollment, internship opportunities, and postsecondary pathways Monitor and support student progress toward graduationDOMAINS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS

Students / Colleagues / Families / Stakeholders Maintain consistent communication with families and guardians Support students' emotional and physical well-being Utilize SWOS communication practices to resolve conflicts effectively Maintain appropriate professional boundaries Professionalism Arrive on time and meet contractual obligations Follow school policies, procedures, and administrative direction Participate in required meetings, professional development, and school events Respond constructively to feedback and maintain professionalism in all settings Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset Ethical Practice Demonstrate understanding of FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable school-based confidentiality practices Act in the best interest of students at all times Maintain accurate documentation of services and student interactions Follow mandated reporting requirements Collaborate with internal and external professionals while maintaining confidentialityRE-ENGAGEMENT AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Identify students at risk of disengagement using attendance, behavior, and academic indicators Collaborate with staff to develop intervention plans and prevent dropout Build and maintain community partnerships to expand student opportunities Connect students and families to resources including healthcare, housing, food security, employment, and education Provide individualized case management and support navigating systems Support alternative pathways aligned to student goals and circumstances Track and re-engage students who have recently disengaged from schoolPosition Type:
