Job Description
Purpose :
Assists in the facilitation of English/Spanish Bilingual programming and services at Crossroads Safehouse & Services. Provides crisis intervention, participates in the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) and supports the safehouse by maintaining the shelter facility through completing regular chores, providing shelter and crisis line coverage, and carrying a caseload with an emphasis on Spanish monolingual and Spanish bilingual clients. Essential Functions Crisis Intervention & Victim Advocacy- Provides crisis intervention in-person and via phone to victims of domestic violence.
- Provides safety planning, individual advocacy, protection order and victim's compensation information, victim rights information and assistance to victims of domestic violence.
- Conducts client intakes, new resident orientation, policy contracts, and client exits.
- Manages a caseload of outreach and residential clients, including adults and children.
- Responds to the safety and welfare of the residents of Crossroads' Emergency Shelter.
- Provides information, community referrals, legal advocacy referrals, and support to victims and families.
- Maintains current knowledge of interpersonal abuse.
- Participates in on-call shifts on Domestic Abuse Response Team.
- Participates on Backup/on-call rotation. Other Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the staff team; participates in client case management, staff meetings, and team efforts in problem solving, applicable program and policy development, program evaluation, and planning.
- Performs recordkeeping functions pertaining to clients in shelter programs, including data collection, reporting, and case notes.
- Maintains care of the facility by reporting needed repairs and health/safety hazards to the facilities manager.
- Assists in maintaining the shelter and helps ensure the readiness of rooms for occupancy.
- Creates and implements bilingual outreach support groups in the community.
- May assist in outreach, community awareness campaigns, trainings, and tabling events to educate and promote Crossroads services in the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Direct Services Manager. Qualifications Required
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Knowledge concerning domestic violence.
- Ability to effectively advocate and provide information in a crisis situation.
- High attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to climb one flight of stairs.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Preferred
- Knowledge of local community and human services resources.
- Experience with case management.
- Experience in human services or related field preferred.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science, Human Services, Child Development, or related field (candidates who are working towards their degree will be considered), OR equivalent work or lived experience Additional Notes Candidate will be required to attend paid 20 hours of core competency training in order to work with individuals impacted by domestic violence.
