A Family, School, or General Social Worker provides specialized assistance to vulnerable families and children. Intervenes in crisis situations; evaluates individual and family needs, helps clients get access to health care, mental health care or social services such as housing assistance. Advocates for clients and provides follow up visits. May work with teachers, parents and school administrators to help students improve academically and deal with social issues such as bullying.
The Police Department Social Worker provides crisis intervention, behavioral health assessments, conflict resolution, de-escalation and referral to social service resources. Serving as a liaison between the community, public safety and social service agencies, this position assists public safety with incidents including domestic violence, child and elder abuse and neglect, homelessness, sex trafficking, substance abuse, justice-involved youth and adults and acute behavioral health crises.

Works under the general supervision of the Chief of Police or designee
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
(includes but not limited to the following):
Assist public safety on scene with individuals who are experiencing a crisis. Provide resource referrals and follow-up. Coordinate with adult and child protective services and crisis services such as 2-1-1 Mobile Crisis as indicated.
Accept referrals from Town departments and community partner agencies to provide behavioral health assessments, resource referrals, and follow-up. Provide outreach to more vulnerable individuals in their homes and in the community.
Collaborate with public, private, non-profit and state governmental agencies to identify resources and make effective referrals. Maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with public safety and other Town personnel, and community partners.
Represent Town and Stratford Police Department at events, programs and meetings.
Participate with the Town's Emergency Management Team as needed, including Emergency Operations Center.
Maintain data through department selected software or any other electronic related records. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPPA and monitor relevant legislative and policy.
Provide relevant training.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ANDABILITIES
Knowledge of social work principles and practices, community resources and relevant local, state and federal laws.
Skill and ability to perform general social work practice including engagement, assessment, intervention and referral. Excellent crisis intervention skills needed.
Ability to demonstrate good judgment, empathy, sensitivity, flexibility and cultural responsiveness.
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with department staff and other organizations and agencies.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must possess excellent time management skills and ability to triage and prioritize cases.
Bi-lingual a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree in Social Work or a related field, Master's Degree preferred. Minimum of 2 years work experience with a variety of age groups and populations including older adults, disabled adults, Veterans and/or financially at-risk individuals and families in a similar setting.
Ability to travel locally required.
SALARY:
$66,976.22 - $83,722.76, depending on experience
