As an advocate, you will work within a compassionate environment committed to fostering safety, healing, and resilience for high-risk populations, including children, individuals with disabilities, and culturally diverse communities. Your proactive engagement will help create a safe haven for those in urgent need of support. Responsibilities Offer immediate crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence in the shelter setting. Assist clients with safety planning, risk assessment, and crisis management strategies tailored to their unique circumstances. Coordinate with child protective services, child welfare agencies, and family law professionals to ensure comprehensive care for children and families. Provide information about social services, legal options, childcare resources, and community-based programs to empower clients in their recovery process. Maintain detailed documentation of client interactions, safety plans, and service referrals using Microsoft Office tools while ensuring confidentiality. Support clients with disabilities or special needs by adapting communication methods and services to meet their individual requirements. Facilitate group sessions or workshops focused on conflict management, family law education, or coping skills as needed. Collaborate effectively with culturally diverse communities by demonstrating sensitivity and bilingual communication skills to bridge language barriers. Participate in ongoing training such as CPR, first aid certification, and child & family services updates to enhance service quality. Qualifications Proven experience working with high-risk populations such as victims of domestic violence or individuals experiencing trauma. Knowledge of child & family services, child welfare practices, and social work principles. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to connect empathetically with clients from diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques, crisis management protocols, and conflict resolution strategies. Experience working with children or providing childcare support is highly desirable. Bilingual abilities are preferred to serve a broader community effectively. Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism while maintaining composure under pressure. Certification in CPR and first aid is required; additional certifications related to social services or child protection are advantageous.
