$16.50/hourGeneral Description:
The Shelter Advocate has front-line responsibility for the safety of survivors of domestic violence, their children and survivors of sexual assault. The Shelter Advocate understands the need for confidentiality, follows all job requirements to ensure participant safety, provides an environment of encouragement, compassion, and support for those we serve, answers the 24/7 crisis helpline, documents services provided to survivors into the survivor records database, prepares rooms for new residents, conducts routine shelter checks, maintains high standards of security, and attends shelter team and all staff meetings.Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a role model and demonstrate, encourage, and offer direction in fairness, consistency, attentiveness, ability to work with others, appropriate dress and appearance, and effective conflict resolution. Provides empowerment-based trauma-informed direct services to survivors of domestic abuse and their children including support, advocacy crisis intervention, safety planning, parenting support, information, and referrals. Answer the crisis helpline and provide callers with empowerment-based counseling, guidance, emotional support, information and referrals. Assess all helpline callers for services, level of lethality, and safety planning needs. Assists with the daily living needs of shelter participants. Provide transportation as needed for participants. Assist participants with Victim Compensation/Relocation applications through the office of the Attorney General. Models non-violent conflict resolution and uses non-violent forms of guidance. Conducts weekly support groups with participants. Maintains record keeping as required and completes all paperwork and entries into the participants' records database by the end of each shift. Packs participants'/families' belongings upon departure; cleans/sanitizes rooms after exit; prepares room for next participant.Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Possess a caring, honest, cooperative nature, and a supportive, sensitive, and empathetic personality. Ability to be flexible while maintaining a positive attitude. Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with community partners, participants, other employees, and volunteers. Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for projects outside of the scope of normal duties and job description as necessary to help the team.Pre-employment screenings:
Required to pass a Level II Fingerprinting background review. Pre-employment drug screening, Motor Vehicle Records Check, Proof of current liability car insuranceQualifications:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office ( i.e., Word, Excel, etc.) Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
