Job Description
Tidewell Hospice , a Part of Empath Health, is seeking a School Bereavement Advocate. The School Bereavement Advocate is responsible for enhancing the Blue Butterfly school program(s) in their assigned territory under the direction of and the collaboration with the School Bereavement Program Supervisor. This position requires the organization, coordination, and evaluation of the 8-week Blue Butterfly school support group for grieving children in each school district of their designated region, providing quality programs compliant with all pertinent state and federal regulations, and current standards of practice. - Promotes, articulates, and models the vision, mission, and values of the organization.
- Communicates with and reports to the School Bereavement Program Supervisor.
- Provides support to each other, through collaboration with all Blue Butterfly School Bereavement Advocates within the Empath Health footprint, for consistency of the program and goals.
- Collaborates with all designated Blue Butterfly Managers, the School Bereavement Advocate Supervisor, and the Blue Butterfly Director to review and provide updated, appropriate curriculum for all 8-week school-based Blue Butterfly programs.
- Provides the training for school personnel and contracted group facilitators for all school programs.
- Reviews the training curriculum for school personnel and contracted group facilitators with the School Bereavement Advocate Supervisor at scheduled intervals and suggests appropriate updates to the curriculum based on need.
- Creates, in tandem with the School Bereavement Advocate Supervisor, appropriate group tool kits and disseminates them to each participating school.
- Develops relationships with each school participating in a Blue Butterfly school program and demonstrates program knowledge to support the growth and consistency of the program.
- Serves as an advocate for grieving children in participating schools and communicates with the Blue Butterfly clinical staff to coordinate crisis interventions.
- Assists with the inputting of computer documents, including applications for the school-based Blue Butterfly program(s), or any pertinent data, when requested or when needed.
- Actively seeks out ways to engage the community about the Blue Butterfly school program(s) and collaborates with the School Bereavement Advocate Supervisor to promote the mission.
- Understands the operating budget and reports to the School Bereavement Advocate Supervisor when additional funds are needed.
- Maintains confidentiality according to all Empath standards and legal requirements.
- Creates an environment in the workplace conducive to trust and open communication.
- Attends community outreach opportunities to present school bereavement resources to community members.

- Minimum three (3) years demonstrated success in event planning or community outreach experience, healthcare field preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience working with schools, school districts, or school boards.
