Parent Educator 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars Kewanee, IL 61443 From $17 an hour - Full-time Abilities Plus 3 reviews From $17 an hour - Full-time Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Parent Educator to join the Abilities Plus team. This role involves working closely with families to promote healthy parenting practices, support child development, and ensure the safety and well-being of children. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on families while working in a supportive and collaborative environment. Duties Provide parent education and support to families, emphasizing positive parenting techniques and child development strategies Conduct home visits and community outreach to assess family needs and offer tailored guidance Educate parents on topics such as child welfare, childcare, and behavioral health to promote safe and nurturing environments Advocate for children's best interests by ensuring safety protocols are followed during all interactions Provide parent education using the Parents as Teachers curriculum. Assist with Individual Family Goal Plans (IFGP) and IFSP development. Complete home visits based on family needs (including occasional evenings/weekends). Maintain accurate client records and complete required documentation. Collaborate with coordinators and service providers to support child development and family well-being. Attend required trainings and promote a culture of safety. Experience High School Diploma or GED Required, Bachelors Degree Preferred. Minimum of 2 years' experience in infant/toddler or parent education programs. Knowledge of typical and atypical child development. Ability to work with diverse families and as part of a team. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and travel frequently. Strong conflict management skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy Background in behavioral health or mental health support services is a plus Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build trustful relationships with diverse populations Certification or training in social work, family counseling, or related areas is beneficial but not required This position is integral to supporting families in our community by fostering healthy relationships and ensuring the safety of children.
