Job Description

The New Castle-Henry County Public Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and child-centered Children's Services Specialist to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and families and wants to make a meaningful impact through literacy, learning, and community engagement. If your idea of a great workday includes storytimes, crafts, laughter, and helping children grow into lifelong readers, we'd love to hear from you.
Please note:
This position involves working directly with children for a significant portion of each day. Candidates should genuinely enjoy engaging with children and families in a lively, active environment. What You'll Do Plan and present engaging storytimes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. Lead activities and playgroups that encourage early literacy, learning, and social development. Assist with children's programs, including crafts, STEAM activities, seasonal events, and Summer Reading. Provide outstanding customer service to children, caregivers, and library patrons. Recommend books and resources that spark imagination and foster a love of reading. Build relationships with schools, childcare providers, and community organizations. Promote library services through outreach activities and community partnerships. Help maintain and develop the children's collection and department displays. What We're Looking For This position is best suited for someone who: Truly enjoys working with children and interacting with families every day. Is comfortable leading groups of children and speaking in front of audiences. Brings enthusiasm, creativity, patience, and a positive attitude to their work. Has strong communication and customer service skills. Works well independently and as part of a team. Believes in the mission of public libraries and the importance of early literacy. Qualifications Associate degree required. Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, education, library science, communications, or a related field preferred. Experience working with children in a library, school, childcare, or similar setting preferred. Valid driver's license required. Ability to obtain and maintain Indiana Public Librarian Certification.
