This position plays a critical role in monitoring children's developmental progress, social-emotional growth, implementing targeted interventions, collaborating with families, and supporting special education goals. The Disabilities and Mental Health Specialist Additionally, the position involves creating and maintaining Tier 2 General Education Intervention (GEI) Plans and provides staff training and guidance to strengthen the overall capacity of the program to meet children's individual needs to succeed. This position is considered full-time at 40 hours per week.
Conduct regular observations and assessments to monitor the social and emotional development of children in the Head Start program. Review development trends, strengths, and areas of concern, and document findings accurately. Collaborate with teachers and staff to create individual GEI plans that support children's social-emotional and developmental growth. Monitor progress and adjust intervention strategies based on individual child needs.
Family Engagement and Support:
Partner with families to develop strategies that support children's developmental and social-emotional development at home. Provide coaching and resources to parents and caregivers to strengthen at home support for development. Foster positive interactions and promote social-emotional intelligence.
Special Education Support:
Serve as a key member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) teams providing professional input and recommending adjustments as supported by data and observations. Collaborate with the special education team to align social-emotional development goals with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Assist teachers in implementing classroom striges that support children's special education goals. Creation and Maintenance of Tier 2 General Education Intervention (GEI)
Plans:
Develop Tier 2 GEI Plans for children requiring additional support beyond universal classroom instruction. Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement targeted interventions based on individual student needs. Regularly review and adjust GEI Plans to reflect progress and changing needs.
Staff Training and Professional Development:
Design and deliver training sessions for Head Start staff on social-emotional development and behavior management strategies. Provide ongoing coaching and consultation to teachers and staff to strengthen their capacity to support children's individualized needs. Stay informed about current best practices and evidence-based strategies in early childhood development. Other duties as assigned.
