Who are we? We are the regional Domestic Violence Shelter & Program serving the BRADD region, consisting of Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren counties. Our agency consists of three major departments. Our outreach program assists survivors in court hearings and in individual counseling sessions. Our housing department assists survivors in their search for permanent housing and supports them in their transition to self-sufficiency. Our shelter, or residential services, is the most robust of our three major departments. While all advocates in our shelter contribute to case management services for clients fleeing Domestic Violence, including intake procedures and paperwork, assessments, referral to outside services and addressing urgent physical needs, advocates are also responsible for the upkeep of the shelter household needs. Household responsibilities include cleaning bedrooms for incoming clients, assisting in washing house laundry such as bath towels and bedding (does not include residents' laundry), cooking meals for residents of the shelter, and managing grocery and food stock. The mission of the Barren River area Safe Space, Inc is provide safety and support to victims of domestic violence and their children and empower them with opportunities that lead to self-sufficiency. We educate our community about domestic violence to help identify and spark change, and we advocate to protect the rights of individuals so everyone in our community can be free from abuse. We want to live in a community where patterns of abuse are broken and stigmas are gone -- a place where society is supportive of survivors, every person matters, homes are free from abuse, and healthy relationships thrive. JOB DESCRIPTION FLSA

Status:

Non-exempt The person in this position provides direct advocacy and crisis intervention to children of domestic violence victims, and appropriate family services within a trauma informed care model. This position involves both individual and group interventions, parenting interventions, developmentally appropriate recreational and educational activities, and follow up services to shelter children. This individual is responsible for designing, implementing and overseeing successful and cohesive children's programming for all children residing in the 24-hour emergency shelter. The Child Advocate will assist in other daily activities of the shelter and is under the direction of the Director of Residential Services and the Residential Services Manager.

Advocacy:

1. Screen and assess all children and youth who enter the shelter or are referred for outreach services 2. Work with advocacy staff to plan and implement individualized activities to meet the needs of the children, including working with the parent, referral to childcare and enrollment in public school 3. Serve as liaison for homeless children and education 4. Provide assistance and follow-up in referrals to appropriate agencies 5. Establish appropriate service plan and means of implementation for each child, in consultation with their parent and based on trauma informed care model 6. Provide age and developmentally appropriate individual and group intervention in conjunction with adult programming 7. Coordinate special outings and activities for residential children and parents 8. Facilitate parenting group on a weekly basis and facilitate children's group at minimum three times weekly 9. Complete monthly activity calendar for shelter children and parents, to include seasonal activities 10. Contact schools in service areas and provide information on the McKinney-Vento education requirements 11. Complete daily service notes in the case files for all children and youth 12. Represent agency at community meetings focused on child-related issues 13. Conduct in-service training for community agencies focused on effects of domestic violence on children

Shelter Operations:

14. Assist with crisis intervention for all residential clients. 15. Answer the 24-hour crisis line at regularly scheduled intervals. 16. Work designated holidays according to shelter holiday rotation. 17. Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 shelter coverage. This rotation consists of staff being designated as "on call" between 2-4 days per month where they may be called for shift coverage as needed.

Administrative:

18. Compile and report statistical information on residents and clients as required by funding sources and governmental agencies. 19. Report time worked and applicable activity information as required by funding sources and governmental agencies. 20. Attend all required trainings and staff meetings 21. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisors

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least 18 years of age. Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, human services, education, child studies, family studies or related field, enrolled in a degree program, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence, safety planning, and justice system. Commitment to adhere to the Designated Program Service Standards of ZeroV. Valid Kentucky driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance. The person in this position should feel comfortable transporting children and adults in agency-owned vehicles. Submit to criminal background check. The person in this position may need to move and carry up to 25 pounds of program materials, including up and down stairs. The person in this position must be capable of physically positioning themselves to successfully interact with children ages newborn through 17-years-old. Comprehensive Benefits Package

• 11 Paid Holidays per year. Staff who work on Holidays will be paid 1.5x their normal rate in lieu of a paid holiday. Holidays are randomly drawn for staff to work. The employees' birthday is one of the 11 Paid Holidays each year.
• Paid Parental Leave of up to 6-weeks paid, up to 12-weeks total after 1-year of employment.
• Paid Medical Leave of up to 6-weeks.

Schedule & Pay The pay for this position is $17.00 per hour + our comprehensive benefits package. The schedule for this position is typically 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday with a30-minute or 1-hour lunch break. There is some flexibility in hours. It's the agency's preference that once a month at minimum, the Child Advocate may work a later shift, or a weekend day, to be present for evening and weekend children's programming.
