Job Description

General Function This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Appropriate activities should be providing for growth in skills, self-awareness, group relations, and character development. By conducting him/herself in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner, this position is a role model for children and adults. Essential Duties Keep safety of children as a first priority-with emphasis on an atmosphere that is family friendly, age-appropriate, inclusive, and conductive to a quality driven environment. Provide a warm flexible, engaging environment for children and families. Supervise children and assume accountability for all children in care. Maintain a clean, safe and orderly environment at all times. Maintain daily attendance records. Works as a team player, supporting co-workers and supports the mission of the YMCA in the community. Knows and abides by YMCA policies, facility policies, accident/incident reports, code of conduct, etc. Arrive to work on time and in proper attire. Attend all YMCA staff meetings, Departmental meetings and staff trainings as assigned. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Must be at least 16 years old Previous experience providing classes/programs/activities for youth a plus Knowledge of child growth and development Dedication to the pursuit of education (for self and children) Excitement and positive attitude toward working with children and families A strong sense of maturity and responsibility CPR/First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention Certifications within 30 days of hire Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand and sit for long periods of time. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling and walking.
