To address student chronic absenteeism, the re-engagement coach will undertake a multifaceted approach to enhance attendance, behavior, and course performance for the students at risk of disengagement or dropping out. The coach will build a trusting and supportive relationship to gain insight into the student's challenges and aspirations. Collaboratively with the student, the family, and school personnel, they will devise strategies to improve attendance, setting realistic attendance goals and employing positive reinforcement techniques. The re-engagement coach will provide positive, proactive strategies when mentoring students with chronic absenteeism. This position is not intended to provide or deliver punitive consequences for chronic absenteeism.Statement of Duties:
Meet regularly with his/her supervisor, the school principal, or their designees regarding matters related to student attendance and welfare. Manage a caseload of at least 30 chronically absent students, as identified in collaboration with the school leadership team. Become familiar with the research-based interventions and resources provided by Attendanceworks.org and develop action steps for implementation to address student chronic absenteeism. Build a positive relationship with the student and family to support their behavioral and academic needs. Assist with student and family engagement strategies and make home visits as necessary. Meet with the students and families and conduct a cause assessment for high absences to create an individualized Student Attendance Success Plan with the student and family and check progress weekly. Mentor students to assist them with establishing goals and providing them with strategies to achieve them. Establish and sustain partnerships with community agencies and work to connect both students and families to support services that will help to address educational barriers. Prepare all necessary attendance reports and collect data on progress of increased student attendance. Work closely with all school personnel regarding matters related to student attendance and welfare, including any academic supports needed to achieve passing grades in courses. Support student attendance using the Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) systems in the district. Participate in in-service training of school personnel in matters related to student attendance and welfare. Perform other duties as directed by the school or district administration.Qualifications:
Associate Degree, or the equivalent. Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese required. Strong verbal and written communication skills Expertise in guiding the analysis of data and data-based inquiry to ensure identification of student risk factors and intervention needs. Ability to collaborate and drive consensus on student needs and intervention plans across a diverse group of school-based personnel. Expertise in case management and providing direct support services to students. Experience with assisting individuals with goal setting, such as a Life Coach or Social worker Skilled multi-tasker and excellent time manager; ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of a holistic approach to student support including family and community engagement Access to a car and ability to travel as needed (non-commuting mileage reimbursement provided).
