- and community-based early intervention services to infants and toddlers who have, or are at risk for, developmental delays, including children with autism spectrum disorder or characteristics associated with ASD, as well as their families, in both home and community settings.
The Autism Specialist partners closely with parents and caregivers to ensure that services are individualized, meaningful for the family, and grounded in evidence-based practices. Through this collaborative approach, the family\'s priorities, needs, culture, and values are at the forefront of service delivery. The Autism Specialist provides expertise in supporting social communication, engagement, play, sensory regulation, adaptive skills, and other developmental areas commonly impacted by autism. This role also serves as a resource to families and team members regarding autism-specific intervention strategies and supports.
Responsibilities Include:
- Participate in multidisciplinary team assessments of the child\'s developmental status, including children with autism spectrum disorder or characteristics associated with ASD.
- Provide direct child development services and activities developmentally appropriate for children birth to three years of age and their families.
- Participate in the development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), with responsibility for identifying objectives, outcomes, and strategies related to the child\'s development.
- Complete progress notes, reports, assessments, and correspondence as required by PDC and DPH.
- Provide individual and group intervention for infants and toddlers from birth to three years old who have developmental delays or who are at risk for delays in the areas of cognitive, adaptive behavior, social-emotional, self-care, fine motor, gross motor, and communication development.
- Utilize evidence-based practices and coaching strategies to support communication, social engagement, play skills, sensory processing, adaptive functioning, and participation in daily routines.
- Assess family and child strengths/resources, concerns, and progress.
- Act as Service Coordinator for assigned families by scheduling, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the intervention plan for each family on caseload, ensuring that appropriate procedures and required timelines are followed.
- Provide supportive professional assistance to families, including education regarding autism spectrum disorder, developmental differences, and available community resources.
- Facilitate parent-child interactions to encourage child development and assist families in acting as advocates for their child.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
- Able to effectively manage required EICS data entry in home and community settings.
- Keep all records timely and updated in EICS as required by PDC and DPH requirements.
Position Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor\'s degree in Early Intervention, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child Studies, Education, Special Education, or a related field; or a Bachelor\'s degree in another discipline supplemented by at least four approved three-credit courses focused on infants, toddlers, and/or families.
Candidates must also have at least 300 hours of supervised practicum, internship, or work experience with infants, toddlers, young children, and their families.
