Job Description
Job description: Bilingual Preferred The Home Visitor position is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular (at least weekly) and long-term (up to five years) contact/support with families. This will occur primarily in the family's home and be intensive (each visit should last for approximately one hour). The intervention will be family-centered and strength-based; and directed at establishing a trusting relationship, assisting in strengthening the parent-child relationship, assisting parents in improving their skills to optimize the home environment, and increasing the family's ability to solve problems. Activities also include identifying and referring to other agencies. This position is responsible for assisting the family in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishment of those goals, as well as screening the normal growth and development of the target child.
Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Maturity and experience in successfully working with children (0-5 years of age) and their families.
- Experience in working with or providing services to culturally and socio-economically diverse communities and families.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Maintains and carries cellular phone as available and appropriate.
- Uses a private car for work purposes. Must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, private insurance, and good driving record as per agency policy.
- Basic knowledge and experience of infant and child development and guiding parents on child development concepts, child health, safety, and nutrition; working effectively with different adults' learning styles.
- Solid skills in effectively communicating with and establishing relationships with people.
- Sound ability to respond to stressful family and office situations in a professional manner.
- Familiarity and ability to efficiently link families with appropriate community resources/services.
- Sound ability to observe and report accurately on the functioning of individuals and families.
- Training in strength-based, family-centered service models.
