The ideal candidate will provide a range of social work services to support the social, emotional, and family well-being of students enrolled in our Early Childhood Special Education and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MICI) programs, as well as our broader early childhood population. This position is available on a full-time or part-time basis, and requires a commitment to early childhood best practices, collaboration with teachers and support staff, and active engagement with families and community partners to remove barriers to learning and promote school readiness. Responsibilities Provide school social work services to students and families in the Early Childhood Special Education and MICI programs, including individual and group support, crisis intervention, and family support. Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and administrators to support the social-emotional needs of students with disabilities and developmental delays. Participate as a member of IEP teams, contributing social work assessments, recommendations, and service delivery for eligible students. Build family relationships, assess needs, and connect families with available community resources and support services. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff across all early childhood programs to identify students with social, emotional, or behavioral needs and develop appropriate intervention plans. Participate as an active member of the early childhood multidisciplinary team, contributing social-emotional and family context to support student success. Assist families in navigating school enrollment, attendance concerns, and access to district and community programs. Support the identification and referral process for students who may qualify for special education services or other support programs. Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies to coordinate services and ensure continuity of care. Maintain accurate and confidential case notes, referral records, and service documentation in compliance with district and state requirements. Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide social-emotional learning initiatives and early childhood programming. Provide consultation and professional development to staff on topics related to child development, family engagement, trauma-informed practices, and community resources. Support attendance initiatives by identifying barriers to regular attendance and working with families to address them. Participate in GSRP program requirements related to family engagement and community partnerships as applicable. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Education. Requirements Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required. Valid Michigan School Social Work license or eligibility for licensure required. Experience working with young children with disabilities, developmental delays, or cognitive impairments in a school or early childhood setting preferred. Knowledge of special education processes, IEP development, and early childhood special education best practices. Knowledge of early childhood development, trauma-informed practices, and family systems. Familiarity with community resources, social service agencies, and support programs available to families of children with special needs. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, child welfare, IDEA, and student confidentiality. Strong ability to build trusting relationships with families from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and special education team. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage caseloads, documentation, and multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency with district data systems, Google Workspace, and other educational technology platforms. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all students and families. Compensation Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings, family homes, and professional meetings as required. Work Schedule This position is available on a full-time or part-time basis. Schedule to be determined based on program needs and candidate availability.
