Examples of Duties The primary purpose of this social work position is to provide stability and safety for children through the licensing and training of foster and/or adoptive parents. Duties include studying and approving families to provide foster care for children; assessing parenting capacities of potential foster parents; decision-making regarding the foster parents' initial and ongoing ability to meet the needs of the child; and confrontation on sensitive subjects, such as sexuality. Assessment, evaluation, and counseling/therapy are vital tools to determine the families' abilities to parent a child on a temporary basis. This assessment and evaluation are completed through both individual interviews and group leadership. This position will require evening and weekend work for group sessions, home visits and on-call weekend coverage to locate emergency placements for children. Worker is responsible for resource development, consultation, case management, and community liaison.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Directly Related Experience is defined as Human Services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning. The Cumberland County Department of Social Services has a dress code policy that must be adhered to. This policy includes specific guidelines related to tattoos and body piercing.
