Agency State Bureau of Investigation Division Intelligence Job Classification Title Social Worker (S) Position Number 65035854 Grade NC11 About Us The State Bureau of Investigation's mission is to serve Sheriffs, Police Chiefs, and District Attorneys as well as State and Federal partners, by investigating crimes and providing technical assistance in order to increase public safety for the citizens of the state of North Carolina. The SBI does so by conducting criminal investigations of allegations in areas of jurisdiction including narcotics, arson, election laws, misuse of state property, environmental crimes, human trafficking, child sexual abuse in day care centers, and threats made against public officials. The SBI provides support to local agencies related to computer crime investigations, use of force investigations, deaths in custody, crime scenes, financial crimes, missing and endangered persons, public corruption, cold cases, K9, special response team, bomb squad, and air wing. The SBI serves as North Carolina's repository of information on criminal history records, fingerprint identification, expungements, sex offender registry, and concealed handgun permits. The SBI manages the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAAC), which is the fusion center for the state of North Carolina, as well as the Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit, which assesses and manages threats of mass violence. Description of Work This Social Worker supports the NC SBI's Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit through assessment, consultation, and case coordination, and identification of community-based resources to reduce risk and promote safety. The position provides expertise in evaluating behavioral concerns, coordinating interventions, and connecting individuals with appropriate mental health, social, and support services while collaborating with multidisciplinary partners. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist investigators in identifying community resources for team investigative cases.
- Collaborate with our local law enforcement partners, local mental health providers, schools, and other community groups to identify and secure resources in the local community to address needs discovered during the threat assessment.
- Create and maintain information resources (i.e. brochures and handouts) about community Behavioral Health, school, and faith-based organizations to be provided, in multiple languages, to individuals and their families in individual cases.
- Explore resources in underserved communities to ensure that the management and mitigation resources recommended and provided by the Unit are culturally appropriate to the individual's needs.
- Coordinate case follow up with our local law enforcement partners.
- Act as a consultant on other cases being investigated by NC ISAAC and the SBI.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Work on multidisciplinary team of local, state, federal law enforcement, psychologists, and behavioral threat assessment partners.
- Applicants who are members of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range:
$45,431- $67,000
