Job Description

Job Summary Rowan County is accepting applications for CPS Social Worker positions in Assessments and In-Home Services. This role is responsible for assessing reports of child abuse and neglect, evaluating safety and risk, and developing plans to ensure child safety, including foster care placement when necessary. Social workers provide casework services to children and families, including home visits, service planning, court involvement, documentation, and collaboration with community partners and law enforcement. This position requires strong critical thinking and the ability to make decisions in crisis situations, sometimes in challenging environments. Clear, timely documentation is required and may be reviewed by courts and state partners Duties Investigate reports of child abuse and neglect by conducting interviews, home visits, and assessments with children and families. Develop safety plans and intervention strategies tailored to each child's unique circumstances, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques. Coordinate services with community resources such as behavioral health providers, childcare programs, and family law agencies to support child welfare. Document case findings accurately in compliance with mandated reporting laws and agency policies. Provide crisis intervention during emergency situations, ensuring immediate safety for children involved. Manage ongoing casework by monitoring progress, adjusting plans as needed, and maintaining detailed case records. Communicate effectively with clients, legal professionals, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to promote child safety and family stability. May provide case management through in-home family services. Requirements Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn case management systems. Bilingual applicants and experience with NC Child Welfare systems (including PATH NC) and Pre-Service training preferred. Must complete 7-week Pre-Service training prior to direct service. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
MSW + 1 year human services experience;
OR BSW + 2
years human services experience; OR Bachelor's in human services + 3 years relevant human services experience; OR Equivalent combination of education and experience (
Note:
Completion of NC Child Welfare Collaborative may substitute for 1 year of experience) All degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
