The JCC is a membership based agency which offers educational, recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and activities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.
Summary of Position:
The JCC is looking for motivated and responsible people who enjoy working with children to serve as Counselors in our Youth, Teen & Family programs. Our programs include After School, Enrichment classes, and Vacation Day events. Additional opportunities are available to work Birthday Parties and Kids Night Out events (on weekends and evenings). The programs serve children from Kindergarten through Seventh Grade during the academic school year. The programs run Monday - Friday from 2:30pm - 6:00pm. Start and end times are flexible on all days of the week within this time. This is a part-time, school-year, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Youth, Teen & Family.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage with children during activities to support their safe and enjoyable participation in counselor-led and specialist-led activities Provide role-model behavior for students Support children's homework completion Ensure group activity areas throughout the JCC are cleaned up in a timely fashion Follow all safety protocols, including but not limited to walking from place to place, room and bathroom supervision, etc. Take accurate attendance for all arrivals and departures Effectively use applicable technology, including the Playground app to communicate with families and track attendance Adhere to program schedules and ensure children are at appropriate activities on time Support healthy social interactions between children Communicate with and take direction from Director of Youth, Teen & Family Additional lead counselor responsibilities (if applicable) include: 1. Responsible for encouraging healthy and safe behavior and practices to support a positive morale of the group 2. Serve as a role model for co-counselors by demonstrating responsible, engaging and professional behavior 3. Lead co-counselors and students in the event of an emergency Additional bus counselor responsibilities (if applicable) include: 1. Arrive to work in time to ride school bus with children between school and the JCC 2. Communicate with Youth, Teen & Family leadership and school office staff to ensure accurate attendance at schools 3. Supervise children to ensure safe transportation on buses including boarding, exiting, buckling seatbelts, managing behavior 4. Take accurate attendance and headcount for all arrivals and departures 5. Maintain a calm, respectful, and supportive environment on the bus 6. Assist in conducting and supervising bus evacuation drills to ensure children understand emergency procedures Other relevant tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum education required: High School Diploma (Lead Counselor) CPR and First Aid Certification; JCC will provide courses if needed (ages 18+) Physician health screening, fingerprinting, and background check required (ages 18+) Strong communication skills Ability to remain alert, attentive and engaging at all times

Occasional lifting and carrying Frequent reaching, stooping, sitting on the floor, and bending
