Job Description
School psychologists/Counselors provide mandated counseling services by working in a small group or one-to-one with students. The school psychologist is the case manager for all students seen individually on their caseload. School psychologists/counselors are expected to work collaboratively and cooperatively with classroom teachers, special area teachers, and parents to ensure student success. They must address students' emotional needs and design approaches to help students chart a course for their lives and careers beyond school. The school psychologist's/counselor's work at the school level includes interpreting cognitive, aptitude, and achievement tests, creating, maintaining and interpreting student records, and assisting the school principal and school psychiatrist in identifying and resolving student needs, issues, and problems. All behaviors and matters related to the Hallen students' behavior and progress are confidential and protected under the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and may only be shared with the classroom teacher and appropriate therapists with administration approval.
QUALIFICATIONS
The School Psychologist shall: Hold a degree in School Psychology or School Counseling. Have ability to relate to and work with children with disabilities. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and fingerprint clearance has been given by the Department of Education. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation applicable to New York State laws. Pass the State required Tuberculin Test prior to start date. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director may find appropriate and acceptable.Job Type:
