Non-Exempt Position Overview NCOESC is seeking a dedicated Parent Mentor to join our team. Under general direction, the Parent Mentor works collaboratively with families of students with disabilities and school personnel to support student success. Partners with families to navigate educational systems, services, and community resources. Promotes effective communication and collaboration among families, school staff, and community agencies to build strong partnerships that support children and youth with disabilities. Key Requirements - Parent Mentor Position Core Responsibilities Serve as a resource to families, school staff, and community partners on special education topics Support families in navigating special education systems, services, and processes (ETR/IEP, eligibility, timelines, etc.) Connect families to community resources, support groups, and agencies Promote collaboration between families, schools, and community organizations Knowledge & Skills Strong understanding of special education laws, processes, and compliance requirements (IDEA, Ohio Administrative Codes) Knowledge of available community resources and support services for individuals with disabilities Ability to explain complex information clearly to families and staff Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Program Implementation & Support Plan and facilitate trainings, workshops, and informational sessions for families and staff Assist with transition planning for students ages 3-22 Provide technical assistance to families, district personnel, and community members Attend meetings (e.g., IEP/ETR) as requested to support families Collaboration & Outreach Work collaboratively with district representatives to implement program services Promote Parent Mentor services within districts and the community Build partnerships that support students with disabilities and their families Data & Reporting Collect and submit required program data and evaluation reports Maintain accurate documentation and meet reporting deadlines Utilize databases and systems for tracking services and outcomes Professional Expectations Participate in required professional development and training (CETE, OCALICON, etc.) Maintain current knowledge of regulations, policies, and best practices Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance Uphold ESC policies, procedures, and professional standards Additional Expectations Ability to manage multiple responsibilities across districts Strong organizational and time-management skills Commitment to supporting students with disabilities and their families Minimum Qualifications High school diploma Parent of child(ren) with special needs Valid driver's license Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; including strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Proficiency with web-based applications (i.e., Google Docs, DEWs website, social media, etc.), and NCOESC databases Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records Clearances Criminal justice fingerprint/background (FBI/BCI), and public health clearances Physical Requirements & Working Conditions The performance of this job requires constant talking, and hearing, engagement in repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination. This job requires occasional standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. Performance of primary duties takes place in a school environment with occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions including extreme heat & cold, temperature changes, wetness, humidity, noise, and hazards. Frequent light to moderate physical effort required.
