Position Summary The Youth Advocate is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive, trauma-informed children's program that directly supports the emotional development, healing, and resilience of youth residing at both our shelter sites. Serving as a key resource for child advocacy, this position guides parents, supports educational needs, and fosters social-emotional growth through a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. In addition to planning educational, recreational, and cultural activities and offering respite care, the Youth Advocate actively partners with the Kinship and Healing Roots programs to host collaborative events and support groups, while assisting with transportation needs for youth-related organizational activities.
STATUS:
Full-Time, 1.0 FTE
COMPENSATION
$29.50 hourly; Employer-paid Medical, Vision, Dental insurance; Simple IRA with 2% employer match, EAP, generous paid time off package.
HOURS:
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with alternating Saturday. Afternoon to swing hours to support the school schedule. Some special events will occur outside of standard office hours

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Youth Support Provide trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate care and support to children and youth residing in shelter. Offer respite care for parents while ensuring children's safety and emotional well-being. Build positive, trusting relationships with children and families through supportive engagement. Observe and document children's progress, concerns, and participation in accordance with agency policies. Program Development Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive children's program that addresses the emotional, educational, recreational, and social needs of children impacted by domestic violence. Develop age-appropriate activities that promote healing, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and resilience. Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements based on participant needs. Activity Planning and Coordination Create and maintain a monthly calendar of educational, recreational, and therapeutic activities for children and youth. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate weekly, monthly and seasonal activities within the shelter. Organize special events, family engagement opportunities, and community-based outings. Cultural Programming Plan and execute culturally inclusive celebrations, heritage events, and educational activities that recognize and honor the diverse backgrounds of shelter residents. Ensure programming reflects equity, inclusion, and respect for various cultures, traditions, and identities. Transportation Support Provide transportation for children and families to agency-sponsored events, educational outings, appointments, or community activities as assigned. Collaboration Work collaboratively with shelter advocates and Emergency Services Specialists to coordinate services for children and families. Participate in case staffing, team meetings, program planning and agency meetings. Coordinate services, support and groups with Bradley Angle youth programs as needed/requested. Safety and Compliance Maintain a safe, welcoming, and child-friendly environment. Follow all confidentiality requirements and agency policies. Document interactions and activities as determined by contracts and/or leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
All employees are expected to demonstrate: Strong proficiency with computers, Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), databases, email, and G-Suite. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work independently, and as part of a team. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes chaotic, environment. Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, time management, creating work plans and timelines, training and development, decision-making, leadership, and prioritizing tasks; excellent attention to detail and quality of work. Respectful listening and verbal communication skills. Commitment to working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and knowledge of violence, historical oppression, and its effects on society. Commitment to social change—including working to end domestic and sexual violence and all forms of oppression: racism, homophobia, sexism, classism, etc. Understanding the intersections between domestic and sexual violence, racism, poverty, trauma, and other forms of oppression. Requirements:
experience working with children/youth, high school diploma, valid drivers license, pass a background check & Motor vehicle record check.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in child development or related field, CPR and First Aid certification, food handlers card, group facilitation
