Job Description

POSITION TITLE
Director of Children's Ministry
SUPERVISOR
Pastor & Staff Parish Relations Committee PURPOSE:
Create and lead a safe, inviting environment for children to learn about Jesus and his love.
JOB TYPE
Full-time (Sunday mornings and flexible M-Thu office hours, other hours as needed to fulfill ministry tasks)
QUALIFICATIONS
Faith:
A vibrant personal faith in Christ, committed to GMC/Wesleyan theology and the authority of Scripture.
Calling:
A clear passion for the spiritual discipleship and formation of children.
Leadership:
Strong team-building and interpersonal skills rooted in humility, grace, and truth.
Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written skills for engaging both children and adults.
Organization:
Ability to align curriculum, volunteers, and events with the church's mission.
Education:
Bachelor's degree required (emphasis in child development, education, or theology preferred) and/or minimum three years of relevant experience .
Professional Development:
Seeking or possessing GMC ordination is not required, but considered a significant asset.
Background Check:
Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & GOALS
Expansion & Innovation Design and launch creative initiatives to reach new families and fill ministry gaps.
Goal:
Launch one new recurring program (mid-week/specialty) by end of Year 1. Growth & Retention Execute strategies to move first-time guests into active church membership.
Goal:
15-20% attendance annual growth and 50% visitor retention rate. Spiritual Formation Oversee Wesleyan-aligned curriculum to ensure children are formed as disciples.
Goal:
Develop a measure with leadership to assess graduating students' biblical knowledge. Volunteer Equipping Recruit and disciple a volunteer team with the children's committee to shift from a "solo-leader" to an "equipping" model.
Goal:
20% annual increase in trained volunteers; maintain 1:5 adult-to-child ratio. Community Outreach In addition to Vacation Bible School, partner with local schools/nonprofits to extend the church's reach beyond its walls.
Goal:
Two high-visibility events annually with 30%+ non-member attendance. Systems & Data Management Maintain the ministry database (attendance, allergies, background checks) and budget oversight.
Goal:
Fully updated children's ministry roster within the first 6 months. Safety Systems Develop and oversee comprehensive safety protocols, including check-in/out systems, medical response, and emergency procedures.
Goal:
Achieve 100% compliance with background checks and safety training for all staff and volunteers. Nursery Oversight (with Coordinator) Strategically lead the Nursery Coordinator to ensure excellence in safety, cleanliness, and care.
Goal:
100% consistent staffing and top-tier scores on monthly "First Impression" audits.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Total Compensation:
$35,000 - $45,000 (Commensurate with experience).
Benefits:
Package includes employer-sponsored health insurance and two weeks of starting paid time off (PTO).
