- 5/29/2026 The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking two visionary and dynamic individuals to join USDB as a Deaf Mentor.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements The Ideal Candidate:
Must be deaf. Must have advanced American Sign Language (ASL) skills. Must have knowledge of Deaf culture. Must be well-versed in language acquisition, principles of ASL best practices, and have a specialization in teaching adults the principles of ASL and Deaf culture. Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism. Communicate clearly and effectively. Maintain strict confidentiality.Supplemental Information:
Travel is required. Must be willing to work a schedule that meets the needs of the families being served, including evenings and Saturdays, and be willing to participate in multiple Deaf culture events throughout the year. Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work. Preference may be given to applicants with a degree in Early Childhood Education and/or experience working with deaf/hard-of-hearing children. Work schedule typically Monday through Friday, seven-and-one-half (7-1/2) hours per day, 183 days per school year. About the Role Location- Northern Utah and St. George. Background Check Required
