Job Description

Director of Children's Ministry Position:
Part Time Core Hours:
Monday, Wednesday and Sunday mornings and evenings. Weekend and evening hours should be expected to meet the programming needs of this position. The Director of Children's Ministry oversees programming that provides for faith development in young people from infancy to 6th grade empowering them to form a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. The Director will have a significant role in establishing and executing the Children's Ministry Plan in coordination with the Pastors, Staff, Laity and Youth Council. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Planning innovative and creative programming for children, birth through sixth grade, including Sunday school on Sunday mornings and Children's Church during services. Create and plan innovative programming for children and their families, birth-sixth grade that support that include Sunday school, family retreats, mission activities, Vacation Bible School, and other church sponsored events. Recruiting and training volunteer teachers in accordance with the church Child Protection Policy. Ensuring volunteers have access to programmatic materials by identifying, reviewing, and assisting with procurement of educational materials and supplies. Directing annual children and family events, including celebrating faith milestones and holiday events. With the Director of Community Engagement, identify and connect church programs with appropriate programming and events external to Messiah focused on children. Manage and oversee the church nursery to ensure quality childcare for Sunday activities as well as other church functions. Attend weekly staff meetings, monthly Church Council meetings, and prepare an annual budget connected to this ministry. Cultivate and maintain a partnership with the Director of Messiah's Child Enrichment Program Preschool (CEP). Develop a ministry plan in coordination with the lay leadership. The ideal candidate would have experience: Committed follower of Jesus Christ, seeking to serve God and live out Messiah Church's vision and mission in the Methodist tradition. Building and developing innovative and creative child programs Experience supervising and recruiting volunteers and paid staff to meet program needs Growing smaller programs into successful, sustainable programs with continuity Working collegially in collaboration with other staff members in planning events and programs Engaging with the broader community Recruiting, training, and managing volunteers, including delegating responsibilities Communicating clearly both orally and in writing to small and large groups
